With the introduction of iOS 5, we saw the inclusion of another application that comes standard with the software, which was Apple’s Reminders application. While it was certainly a much needed addition to iOS, there are multiple other solutions that boast what Apple failed to include, one of which is HQ: To Do, an application similar to Reminders wrapped in a much nicer looking package and sporting additional content over its likely competitor. As you open the application, you’ll notice it’s appealing interface, which is one of application’s strongest fortes, hence the “HQ” part of the name. The plus is that it goes uphill from this bright point on. The aim of the application is to keep you on track. In essence, it’s another to-do application among the existing many that the App Store has to offer. You input a task, a date by which it must be finished, a priority, some other things and it’s guaranteed that you won’t forget to do that task so long as you’ve got notifications turned on. One plus is that the application is pretty much completely customizeable. Each of your tasks will show up in the large list that shows up each time, formatted neatly with the inputted name and the task due date. It also comes accompanied by a slick rounded rectangle layering as the acting background for that task, which can be changed for each other task. From the blues, to the greens to the yellows in between (I’m a poet, and I didn’t even know it!) the options provided add life to the interface giving you the opportunity to augment the application with the desired vivid colors. Highly navigable, the user interface is one to compliment. Everything that you can do in the application is directly accessible with a few clicks, and deleting tasks, editing them and so on can be done with simple swipes to the left on the specific task. The ability to arrange your tasks depending on various criteria, including my priority, time due and such, is incorporated, easily done by swiping the according area that layers the bottom of the screen. You’ll also be able to create lists within the same application: groceries, shopping, whatever it may be all eased. I mentioned that HQ: To Do was in some ways better than Reminders, the application included in iOS 5 by Apple themselves. The latter does have Apple’s Read More
Read More

From one-person shops to giant enterprises, if businesses agree on anything right now it's "iPad Yay." The Apple tablet hasn't even reached the terrible twos yet, but it's clearly making its presence felt across countless verticals and different industries. For at least a couple of mobile professional writers (who might have been termed "ink-stained wretches" in times gone by), the iPad's capability as a writing tool has led it to largely replace their laptops for day-to-day work. While consumers may be the drivers behind most iPad sales, chances are that the iPad-toting professional on your gift list is using his or her iPad for a combination of personal enjoyment and work tasks, so why not find a gift that supports and extends the biz savvy of everyone's favorite quasi-computer? Here's our brief list of gift ideas that you could conceivably write off on your taxes. Cloudy Days If your business iPad user is a sole proprietor or running a small business, they don't have to compromise about getting big-biz-level enterprise tools anymore. The same Google Apps or Box.com infrastructure that supports huge corporations can be theirs for a modest investment. Consider gifting a pro Dropbox account (50 GB is quite a bit of room to maneuver), or going with Box or Egnyte for more sophisticated file services & sharing. (Dropbox's Teams product is great, too, but requires more coordination with other colleagues.) Maybe a Pogoplug account, or a subscription to one of 37 Signals' highly-regarded services? If your businessperson is already a user of 37 Signals' Backpack business collaboration tool, the $9.99 Pouch app makes their iPad a fully-featured Backpack client. Another collaboration platform, Pagico, just released its official iPad app last week. Then again, what we want from the cloud, often as not, is access to the files we have sitting right there on our computer at the office or at home. With the free Polkast service and iPad app, business users can quickly get to their PC or Mac storage over local networks or remotely as long as the computer is on. It's not the sort of thing that BigCorp IT departments find particularly appealing, but for a lean and mean solo operation or small team it might just do the trick. Speaking of big IT, the pricey ($29.99) but indispensable LogMeIn Ignition client makes it easy to remotely control one or hundreds of remote computers from the iPad's Read More
by Facebook, Google, Twitter, LinkedIn — none of these companies would be able to sustain themselves without advertising. But getting your brand in front of users who’ve never had to sit through an ad in their life can be a challenge. That’s why it’s important to acknowledge the brands and marketers that are burning calories to figure out ways to get their message across in a fragmented media environment. The nominees below thought of novel ways to adapt their messages to the social media environment. Often, these are ads and campaigns that are part of the conversation, rather than a disruption to it. Here are all the nominees from the 2011 Mashable Awards Business category. Read More

Just connect the 14cm long probe to the iPhone, fire up an app that supports the device and view the handset’s display to track radiation readings. There are many portable geiger counters out there, but the idea here is to make use of the iPhone’s capabilities to keep the price down: just the handset and the Geiger Fukushima are enough. The device can be ordered by people living outside Japan, too (it costs US$203 in the Japan Trend Shop). Sanwa says the measuring range for the Geiger Fukushima stands at 0.04-20 microsieverts per hour and that one AAA battery lasts about 200 hours. Sponsored Ads Sponsored Ads Sponsored Ads Read More
