Talking Tom Cat Free

| FREE | Outfit 7
January 27th, 2011 Miguel Pereyra Mobile apps developer Outfit7 announced yesterday that its iOS and Android apps have reached 60 million downloads! This news coming just weeks after they announced 41 million downloads hit. Even more impressive, over 1 million apps were downloaded on Christmas Day alone, which net the company nearly $200,000 alone.  WOW! “Our growth is powered by what I would call the Law of Unintended Consequences.  Kids are using smart phones in ways that were never anticipated.  While observing kids playing with our apps, we realized we were no longer an app developer, but a mobile toy maker” says Andrej Nabergoj, CEO of Outfit7. “The global toy industry, a nearly $100B business, is more than double the size of the game industry. It’s been a long time since anyone has been able to disrupt that business.” Outfit7 says it expects to exceed 100 million total iOS and Android apps before the end of Q2 2011. Since its launch in July 2010, their first and most successful app,Talking Tom Cat, has clocked 40 million downloads on its own. These are very impressive numbers.  Here is some other information to better put them into perspective. Wow more downloads in half the time? That’s remarkable! I can’t help it but say: while their apps can talk the talk, their revenue can walk the walk as well, ha. You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site. Read More

HECTOR: Badge of Carnage Ep1

| $3.99 | Straandlooper
The adventure game with a risque edge. That would be the best way to describe Hector, and it is exactly what it strives to be, an addictive adventurer built just for your iPhone with an edge that has been untapped on the iPhone. And they have tapped it until the keg ran dry with this one. The whole game is amazing, and one cannot help but admire how they pushed the limits of the Apple reviewers. Read on for the sickening details on this game. Presentation Hector aims to be THE premier casual and slightly naughty adventurer on the iPhone, and it definitely succeeds in this respect. The game is excellent in every way, being an adventurer and a very long and deep on at that. It is also amazing graphically, with the cartoonish graphics being well constructed and sharp all way through, unlike some other attempts at pop-out, these are great and clearly had tons of time put into them. You have the whole, well made package here, with the controls and other aspects being clearly made by people who play their own games. Hector is much hyped and lives up to all of it. The controls are as intuitive as possible, and tailored just for the 3.5″ screen on the iPhone. Controls The controls are clearly made for the iPhone, and the iPhone alone. No complexities to over come, only simple design and implementation. The controls are simple and intuitive. You have to tap once to look at an object, tap twice to pick up, use, or talk to. You can also slide your finger around to look around. Slide to the edge of the room to exit. These are as good as possible for an adventurer on the iPhone. Gameplay The gameplay is really where Hector excels. You Read More

Phoenix Wright

| $4.99 | CAPCOM
June 21st, 2010 iSaac Villanueva Order! Order in the court! I’m here to present to you yet another ported game. This time we see another DS title come to the iPhone. Capcom did a pretty good job on the original series, and did not let us down with Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. For those familiar with the game or just like a good thinking based one, you should consider grabbing a copy of this. Presentation Phoenix Wright, an up and coming lawyer is given 5 cases to investigate. Follow his actions as he tries to become more than rookie. The idea that you can choose what to do next brings some freedom to the title. Answer correctly and point out any objections to get some respect. The whole feel for the game is there. This port has the same graphic and sound styles from the DS. The crazy, and funny cartoonish style of gameplay stands out for casual gamers. Quick thinking and correct judgment skills will guarantee a victory as Wright. Controls Since Capcom ported this from the DS, the iDevice’s screen resembles the two DS screens. On the top half you’ll see the action going on, while the lower half holds all your actions and functions. It’s pretty simple to navigate through the menus, just tap and hold and you’ll see more options to access inventory or settings. You’ll notice a HUGE next button to control the dialog. Gameplay There’s two modes of play in the game. Investigation and Court. You basically gather evidence and build up a statement to be used in court. Then you present that theory, listen to any testimonies, and try to prove your client innocent. All this works with a couple of correct judgement. Every now and then you’ll get some jokes and laughs to Read More

Iron Horse

| $1.99 | AppStar Games Inc.
Iron Horse is a simple, yet amazing kind of new action/puzzler. Trains really are an excellent personification that the iPhone needs more of. Mr. Conductor, this is your iron horse, you must guide it and all it’s cargo to your destination? Will you make it? That’s up to you and your reflexes. Read on. Presentation Iron Horse is an 18th century reference in and of itself – comparing trains to horses. This game exemplifies that in many ways, but in a far more effective and addictive way. You take strings of cargo down the tracks, adding more and more manually as you go along, in a game of speed and timing. This is done so simply, and in such beautiful graphics and animations, that it becomes far more realistic. Everything from the smoke billowing from the train to the appearance of the train and tracks. This is also done with simple and graphically shown controls that are absolutely perfect. Controls The controls here are blissfully simple. There is no combination of the various controls options – no swipes, drags, shakes, swings, flips, turns, tilts, or any over complex control method. Why overcomplicate an obvious answer? Your only control is tapping. You tap to begin, and tap at the correct time to line up the train cars to add to your train. This is excellently simple and well guided. Gameplay The gameplay is very much that of a casual game. You progress though the levels one at a time and collect the various boxcars along the away to your destination. The number of cars and speed of the train increase as you go through the levels, which increases the difficulty significantly, and makes an otherwise simple game a game that is progressively more difficult and desirable to play. It’s game over if Read More

Tap Farm: 5 Free Magic Beans!

| FREE | Streetview Labs
June 20th, 2010 James Isabel In an attempt to regain steam, Street View Labs has dropped the price to their social farming game to FREE. We’ve previously this title before and found it pretty cool: Tap Farm is an almost exact replica of FarmVille. I don’t want to get on the whole “did the chicken arrive before the egg” discussion so let’s just say both games are awfully similar. Anyway, Tap Farm is a real time simulation game of, well, farming. You get to plow, plant and harvest different kinds of seeds, grow trees and even adopt animals! Download the game now and use the 5 free beans to whatever you’d like to purchase! You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site. Read More

June 20th, 2010 James Isabel Remember the much awaited Prince of Persia: Warrior Within only to arrive with menu bugs that led to Gameloft pulling it? Well it’s now back with all of its bugs fixed and even better, PoP:WW iPad is coming soon: We got a hands on demo of the iPad version last week at E3 and besides the obvious graphics changes, there really isn’t anything new on it. That’s not necessarily a bad thing since the game screams in “HD”. Prince of Persia is an adventure game where avoidance and sneaky attacks are both keys to the game. The retro version of the game was even released to the AppStore not too long ago around the same time a movie inspired by the game was released. Download the iPhone game while we await the iPad version’s release which should be out any moment now. You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site. Read More
