02/25/2011 30 best free Android games | News | TechRadar UK, by TechRadar UK | Technology News And Reviews

As Android phones have increased in popularity, the number of apps available for the platform has rocketed. And that means more free Android games. There's a lot of junk out there but, fortunately, there are gems among the junk. We've worked our way through a whole load of Android games to reveal the ones you should download to your phone. If we've missed your favourite free Android game, let us know in the comments. We also have a video run down of the top 10: 1. Angry Birds The amazingly popular iOS game moved to Android recently, earning over two million downloads during its first weekend of availability. The Android version is free, unlike the Apple release, with maker Rovio opting to stick a few adverts on it rather than charge an upfront fee. The result is a massive and very challenging physics puzzler that's incredibly polished and professional. For free. It defies all the laws of modern retail. 2. Bebbled Bebbled is your standard gem-shuffling thing, only presented in a professional style you wouldn't be surprised to see running on something featuring a Nintendo badge with an asking price of £19.99. You only drop gems on other gems to nuke larger groups of the same colour, but with ever-tightening demands for score combos and scenes that require you to rotate your phone to flip the play field on its head, Bebbled soon morphs into an incredibly complex challenge. 3. Red Stone There's an awful lot of square-shuffling games on Android and Red Stone is one of the best. And one of the hardest. You start off with a big fat 'King' square that's four times of the normal 'pawn' squares, then set about shuffling things so the fat King can get through to an exit at the top of the screen. It's hard to accurately describe a puzzle game in the written word, but seriously, it's a good game. 4. Newton Released a few months back in beta form, Newton is a maths/physics challenge that has you lining up shots at a target - but having to contend with the laws of nature, in the form of pushers, pullers, benders (no laughing), mirrors and traps, all deflecting your shot from its target. The developer is still adding levels to it at the moment, so one day Newton might be finished and might cost money. But for now it's free and Read More

04/24/2010 'PapiJump' and 'James Cameron's Avatar' Arrive on iPad, by Touch Arcade

One of the early classic iPhone games PapiJump is now available for the iPad. We first discovered PapiJump back in August, 2008 and found it to be a surprisingly fun experience. The game later inspired Lima Sky's Doodle Jump which has also been a massive success. While Lima Sky is still putting the final touches on their iPad version of Doodle Jump, you can play PapiJump on the iPad for free. I can't say PapiJump for iPad is anything more than a novelty, but it plays differently than you might expect. The iPad version will play in both landscape and portrait, though I found the landscape (steering wheel hold) more natural. In contrast, the iPhone version has always been a one-handed portrait affair. Sunflat has also added swipe and touch controls to the iPad verison. Meanwhile, James Cameron's Avatar from Gameloft is now available in an iPad version. The iPad-optimized version does not appear to have any new content, but does have improved graphics and reconfigured controls for your iPad-enjoyment. 08/10/2009 Paper Toss en version 'World Tour', by blog iPhon.fr

With a week gone by since the AppAwards it has given me time to reflect on the winners of all the game categories. Games truly make the App Store since they’re the most populous category, and the area we spend most of our money. Over the past year thousands of developers have flocked to the amazingly unique platform that is the iPhone. It was only obvious that a game is the App of the Year, it was just a question of which one. Rolando 2: Quest for the Golden Orchid is the best game I’ve played on the iPhone. When voting for it, it was like voting for the Rolando series which is the golden standard in iPhone gaming. Rolando 2 is the only game to have amazing graphics and sounds, engaging gameplay, great online connectivity, and to spend a considerable amount of time. Rolando exemplifies iPhone gaming, and sets it apart from every other device on the market. So many games have been released in just a year, so it was very difficult to determine the final six nominees in each category. I’m happy with our final selections, but a few games fell through the cracks, and should be highlighted here. The biggest miss was not having a whole new category for best free game. Trace, TapTapRevenge 2, Jelly Car, Aurora Feint (free for a long period) , Papi games, and Cube Runner were all more than deserving. Another game we missed was Puzzle Quest ($7.99) which somehow wasn’t even nominated for best puzzle game, even though it had a realistic chance of winning. Gaia ($2.99), a relatively unknown game, missed out as well, but is one of the best puzzle games and worth checking out. Topple 2 ($0.99) added a whole bunch of gameplay elements to the first installment, but sadly missed out on best puzzle and most innovative controls. Oregon Trail ($4.99) definitely deserved to be nominated somewhere, it’s a great game, but it was tough to find a place to put it. More honorable mentions for two of inxile entertainment’s games Line Rider ($2.99) and Fantastic Contraption ($2.99) that faced the same fate as Oregon Trail. Two games missed out on best to play over and over: Sneezies ($0.99) and Doodle Jump ($0.99), both are a bunch of fun, and highly addictive. Finally honorable mentions go to Blimp: The Flying Adventures ($0.99), Marple ($1.99), and Cubes ($2.99). Read More
