Yesterday we suggested twenty apps to download for your new iPhone, but what if you received an iPad for Christmas?  You’ll be needing this list, than!  Here are twenty recommended iPad apps and although there are some repeat apps from the iPhone list, there are plenty of new suggestions too. As before, the first ten should be considered ‘must-haves’, while the second ten depend more on what you want to do with your iPad.  Here we go: For All Users: A Little More Specific: That’s it!  We hope these inspire you to explore what your new iPad can do, as there are so many great apps available.  Don’t forget, there are many alternatives to the ones we’ve mentioned, so don’t be afraid to search the App Store. 08/09/2010 Is the iPhone 3G becoming extinct?, by iSource

I happened to buy my iPhone 3G a couple of weeks before the 3GS was launched. Now, with the iPhone 4 on the market, and just a little after a year of buying it, my 3G is already two generations old. So embarrasing. I upgraded my iOS to 4.0 for a couple of days, but that made my iPhone 3G frustratingly slow. So I moved back to 3.1.3. The feeling of being obsolete is quietly developing. The newest release of Twitter for iPhone (the official app) doesn’t work on my iPhone anymore. What their site says about this situation is pretty much “we know it crashes, we are working on it”. But I really think that as soon as I close my browser, they laugh at us 3.1.3 users. Thank God we still have Osfoora. (Update: Twitter for iPhone 3.0.3 is out and fully working on 3.1.3… if only I had something interesting to tweet). Qik, my first choice for videorecording, doesn’t work either. They throw an upfront “sorry, no Qik for you”. At least they don’t give us fake hopes. How long do you think we can survive? Should we move on to 4.0? Is the 3G on its way to extinction? Read More

07/29/2010 iOS4 Updated Apps: Osfoora, Agendus, Reeder, AT&T MyWireless, Pano,, by The iPhone Blog

By Allyson Kazmucha, Thursday, Jul 29, 2010 | As you all know by now, we’re still watching for iOS4 updates that crop up in the app store, and as always, if you guys see interesting ones, feel free to let us know.  Here’s the ones we found in the last week or so, and if you haven’t checked for updates, go check that update tab and let us know if you caught something we didn’t! Osfoora has taken the place as my favorite Twitter client (for now anyways). They received an iOS4 update we covered a few weeks back, but this one is even better. It adds full retina display support for the iPhone 4 and boy is it pretty. The whole app got somewhat of a facelift as well. The text really pops and the main menus have been revamped. So if you haven’t updated, go for it, or if you are looking for a Twitter client, Osfoora is definitely one of the best around. Agendus is basically an all-in-one app for all the important information on your phone. It basically intertwines your contacts, calendars, and apps into one native app. If you’ve always wanted something that would do this, Agendus is more than decent. The new version adds iOS4 support as well as a new high res icon. Reeder is one of my favorite RSS clients. If you don’t have one and want a full featured one with Google Reader integration, there’s a good chance Reeder will do what you need it to, and then some. This update adds support for the iPhone 4 retina display. The icon just looks so fancy on my homescreen now, as well as all my articles being incredibly sharp. Good job on this one guys, it’s an awesome update. [iTunes Link] AT&T just pushed through an update to their MyWireless app that adds retina support for the iPhone 4. This app basically allows you to view usage, manage features, and even pay your bill via the app. I’ve been using it to pay my bill for quite a while now. Pretty convenient. If you’re an AT&T customer, go ahead and pick it up, it’s free. Pano is an awesome app to stitch together pics on the go. It’ll save them directly in your camera roll. The interface is dead easy to use and once you snap a pic it’ll give you guides to Read More

07/21/2010 Top 5 Twitter Apps for iPad, by TheAppleBlog

When it’s not displaying the Fail Whale, Twitter is a pretty useful service for keeping up with family and friends. The first app I install on every mobile device is a Twitter app of one flavor or another, since having a good app can make all the difference to getting the most benefit out of Twitter. Fortunately, there are plenty to choose from. The iPad screen is particularly good at working with the social network, due to its larger size. I admit I have a weakness for Twitter apps, and I’ve tried so many I have lost count. Here are my current top five Twitter apps for the iPad. If you have a favorite share it in the comments. . This is my “go-to” Twitter app on the iPad. I use it in either portrait or landscape as it displays well in either orientation. Working with multiple Twitter accounts is easy (on the Pro version) and the app handles all standard Twitter functions. It is not as configurable as other apps, but it works very well. Users of the paid version can also install the iPhone version on that phone for free. Free and Pro ($4.99). . My favorite Twitter app for the desktop is Tweetdeck, as I find the multiple column display presents a lot of information at a glance. The iPad version is very similar, although it displays very differently. In portrait display, the top third of the screen is wasted until you tap on a tweet. That opens up the details window, which lets you do all the normal things to a tweet that you expect. Tilting the display to landscape shows the power of Tweetdeck, as it mimics the desktop version by putting a lot of information at your fingertips. Updates can be slow because of all the information in the multiple columns. Free. . Osfoora (strange name) can do virtually everything with Twitter you’d ever want to do, and has a configurable display. The display reminds me somewhat of Tweetdeck, so I’m not sure I like the wasted screen space. It’s a solid performer, and many iPad owners swear by this app, so it makes the cut. $3.99. . This app is one of the most attractive Twitter clients you’ll see. Twittelator looks good, but the layout can be confusing at times, because the timeline is rather small while the individual tweet window is huge in Read More

07/07/2010 Updated for iOS 4: Bing, CoPilot, Gowalla, Waze, Osfoora, by The iPhone Blog

By Allyson Kazmucha, Wednesday, Jul 7, 2010 | As you all know, we’ve been watching the App Store for iOS4 compatible updates. We’ve found a few we think are worthy of a postup, and as normal, if you guys find anything especially awesome, feel free to leave it in a comment or send it to me in an e-mail (ally (dot) kazmucha (at) tipb (dot) com) and if we think it’s awesome too, we’ll include it in our next roundup! Hit the jump to see what we found lurking in the App Store this time! Bing is relatively new to the search game, but it’s definitely holding it’s own. As far as search engines go, I’m a fan of how Bing is organized and how it now interacts with your social networks. Bing is now updated for iOS4 support (mainly multitasking). There was no talk of support for the retina display for iPhone 4, and I’m really hoping this is something Microsoft will eventually add. It’s already got a beautiful layout, that would just make it even more enjoyable to look at. CoPilot is a popular navigation app.  There are several versions of CoPilot, so you’d have to find the one that’s for your country.  It provides turn by turn satellite navigation and it’s now compatible with iOS4 and offers background navigation.  It’ll even continue giving your directions while talking on the phone.  CoPilot has also added support for the iPhone 4′s retina display. [iTunes Link] – (North American Version) Now this is an app I use on a daily basis and for the past few weeks, the GPS glitches had been driving me nuts. It would tell me I was somewhere I definitely was not, and it was creating spots in the wrong places for a lot of people. They released an update recently that allows support for iOS4 but there was one little problem, every single time you’d open Gowalla, if it was backgrounded, it refused to update your GPS location until you physically closed the task and reopened it, then it would show GPS accurately (some of the time). I was surprised to see Gowalla released an update so quickly, but the new one seems to solve the GPS not refreshing. I have also noticed for the past few days, it’s been spot on, which is a nice change. There’s also now support for the iPhone 4 retina Read More
