Today’s list contains the extremely popular Bit Pilot as well as another classic title with pilot in its name, Paper Pilot. The only iPad app we could track down is actually a really useful one that allows you to do a lot more than just record audio. Bit Pilot ($.99 -> Free): A retro inspired game that features intuitive swipe controls. The idea of the game is to survive for as long as possible by navigating your ship around the asteroids. To pilot your ship, simply swipe in whichever direction you want to head. The game also features OpenFeint integration. Bit Pilot is available for free today only (6/21). It has a four-star rating. Paper Pilot ($2.99 -> Free): A classic iPhone title if there ever was one. In the game you guide your paper airplane through a variety of environments in order to collect paper clips. The paper airplane is controlled via tilt and touch controls. Paper Pilot is available for free today only. It has a three-star rating. Barnyard Bounce Deluxe ($.99 -> Free): A tapping game where you must try to keep your barnyard animal in the air for as long as possible. Items and power-ups litter the screen, and you must tap the good ones to score bonus points while also trying to avoid the bad ones. The game also includes OpenFeint integration. Barnyard Bounce Deluxe is available for free today only (6/21). It doesn’t currently have a rating. Fly Away ($.99 -> Free): An action flying game where you must attempt to travel the furthest distance possible. Your plane’s altitude is controlled by simply touching the left portion of the screen, and your plane’s weapons are controlled by tapping the right. Travel the furthest distance without crashing to move up the leaderboards. Fly Away is available for free for an undisclosed amount of time. It doesn’t currently have a rating. Universal: Smart Recorder ($2.99 -> Free): Allows you to do a lot more than just record audio. The app features the ability to add time-based tags to quickly jump back to important portions of a recording, take pictures while recording (iPhone only), transfer files to your desktop computer, upload files to Box.net, and much more. Smart Recorder is available for free today only (6/21). It has a four-star rating. Read More
The very fact that Smart Recorder can do what no other recording app on the iPhone makes it distinctive. And what it does is allow us to record and compress as long as a one hour session to a minimum 6M for easy emailing. The how-to-use steps in Smart Recorder are well-laid out in a clear and precise manner, so I don’t think anyone should be fumbling while using it. Simply touching the Help button opens up all the info and instructions that we need. The interface is clean-looking and has the Help button at the top right. There is a button marked AP OFF at the bottom left which stands for Auto Pause; recording pauses by itself when there is no sound, and we can use this tab to resume the session. Next to it is the Import button and it takes us to box.net to download our exported files. The Record button makes up the third one, and we can use this to start off on our recording. The delete bin conveniently sits in the corner to get rid of any unwanted trash, whether it be a session, picture or tag. Talking of pictures and tags, we can insert them anytime and anywhere in the recording, and after it too. We can name each session anything we like, and replay them using the Play button. I particularly like how we can choose where to playback a session; we can either use the slider or the left and right arrow keys. There is also a third option to playback using the recording time which is placed above the right arrow key. We even get to choose the speed at which we want to listen and view the recording. After we are done and satisfied with our recording, we can store the sessions on our computer with a breeze. Smart Recorded provides four ways – Wifi sync, SyncDocs, Box.net and email. Smart Recorded is a very useful app, but what is so cool about it is that it is easy to figure out and convenient to use. This app should be the end of all our recording and emailing woes on the iPhone. Read More
