Read More

Strimko is an original game developed by Quokka Studios. It isn’t only a totally new and innovative puzzle game, but it definitely is a literal upgrade to the typical Sudoku puzzles that people spend so much of their time trying to complete. Strimko is a great time-killing application for any iPhone or iPod Touch user and we are going to get right into its every detail in this review. The objective of Strimko is similar to Sudoku; you can’t have a number repeat itself within the respective row and column it belongs to. Here’s the new twist that Strimko brings: you also have the complete “strings” of numbers. Within the same Sudoku-type puzzle, you also must have one of each number available within each string drawn out on the puzzle. Don’t worry, if you still don’t get it the game has a tutorial as well. You use your fingers to fill in the puzzle with the correct number sequences, and once all spaces are filled, you complete the puzzle. You change numbers by tapping on a filled bubble into which a number wheels pops. The number wheel also gives you the option to switch to “pencil mode” which allows you to manually mark a space with all possible numbers you think can be placed, so you can easily keep track of what fits and not have to switch numbers so much. There is also a hint button available that tell you if numbers are incorrect. It will even fill in a random spot for you if you’re stuck. Strimko comes packed with a sleek colorful interface. All menu items, numbers, and bars are color coded, and even difficulty settings have unique looks. Visually there is nothing lacking in this application, it does what it needs to, keeps your attention to it with bright colors that don’t strain your eyes, and keep you in the know as to where you are based on color coded difficulties and other menus. There is also iPod control available as the game doesn’t come with built in music. Strimko is still at version 1.0 and I can’t say I have noticed any bugs, hiccups, or anything else. The game is packed with 100 puzzles ranging from Easy to Master difficulties and there are 20 additional puzzles upon completing the initial 100 (yeah, good luck with that). The Lite version contains 9 unique puzzles and you can download Read More
FluxTunes is an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch that offers an easier and safer way to play your music while on the go. Touching anywhere on the screen will perform one of several actions such as play, pause, next track or previous track. It is a very simple application that may actually make playing your iPod in the car safer. Your music automatically begins playing when you open the application. The album artwork takes up most of the screen, while the artist name, song and album titles are listed at the top. Before you begin tapping, you’ll want to take a look at what type of gestures actually work. If you tap and hold on the screen a help menu will appear, offering a list of available features. Tapping once anywhere on the screen will play or pause the music. Sliding your finger to the right will advance to the next track and sliding to the left will go to the previous track. This motion is actually opposite of most applications and will cause of bit of confusion at first. But, the developer has promised a fix to this in the next update. Also, sliding up or down will change the volume. There are also multi-touch gestures available for even more features. Sliding two fingers to the right or left will go to the next or previous playlist. Sliding two fingers up will play your entire library and two fingers down will allow you to select specific songs, albums or playlists. There is even a four-finger tap that will lock the screen, not allowing any additional touch input except for another four-finger tap. Also, if you quit the application, your music will continue to play. You can then continue controlling your music from the iPod app or back in FluxTunes. So, the app is actually very functional and includes many options to play the music you want to play. There are a few problems with this app that are a bit annoying. For example, the settings menu is located in the default settings app of your device instead of actually in FluxTunes. So, if you want to change something, such as shuffle on/off, you need to exit the app. Also, as previously stated, the swipe direction for next and previous track is opposite of most applications. The functionality is fine, but it does get annoying. Lastly, the four-finger lock Read More
