03/25/2011 Dial Zero review | Android Listings, by Android Listings

Dial Zero is a call assistance app for the Android platform that helps you get directly to a live person when calling a toll-free number. The main page will allow you to search or browse through all of the companies in the Dial Zero database. Selecting a specific company will bring up a page that provides you with the title of the name of the company, their toll-free number, instructions on how to get a live person, and tips from other callers. You can actually press the phone number to initiate a call directly from the app. One weird thing I noticed was that the creators decided to include their apps comments in the actual app. Yes, you can read through the latest comments to see all of the most recent comments left by other users of this app. I found this to be an unnecessary inclusion into the app and it made me wonder whether that was the best inclusion they could come up with. Furthermore, few of these comments are informative. Read More

01/17/2011 Cut to the chase when calling companies with Dial Zero Android app - Android app review - Caitlin M. Foyt | Appolicious ™ Android App Directory, by Android Apps - Daily video reviews by AndroidApps.com

Dial Zero for your Android phone will come in handy the next time you need to call a customer service number. This clever app is designed to allow you to bypass the annoying voice prompts and get to a live, human specialist — and it actually works pretty well, too. The way Dial Zero works is that it has a database of more than 600 companies, listing the information of exactly which keystrokes or phrases you can say that will immediately put you in touch with a real customer service representative. When you launch the app, you're immediately brought inside of a tab that allows you to scour through all of the listed companies or organizations, everything from insurance agencies to your favorite chain stores. Some examples of listed corporations include Fisher-Price, American Airlines, Comcast, and Bed, Bath & Beyond. When you click on one of these names, you're brought to a page where you can see tips of exactly which button-pushing scheme or particular phrase helped someone else to successfully get a person in the past. I spent some time clicking around on this alphabetical list, and I was quickly impressed by how helpful it was. For instance, if you need to get in touch with the people over at PayPal and want to skip the whole repeat-yourself-over-and-over-again-to-a-robot-who-will-never-understand-that-you're-saying-YES-and-not-NO mumbo jumbo, you repeat the word "agent" three times. To get through to Allstate, press the "*" button at each prompt, completely ignoring the commands you're given. To talk to an actual person at Johnson & Johnson, you press "0." From this same page, you can also click on the listed phone number to dial the company straight from the application. One thing in particular I don't like about Dial Zero, however, is the fact that you must sometimes sift through a whole bunch of comments before you find a helpful answer. Even more irritating, these responses don't seem to be moderated at all, and so a lot of rude and inappropriate discussion seems to pop up. Many of these comments have nothing to do with the app at all. Another downside is the fact that this app is often very slow to load pages for individual companies, sometimes taking as long as a few minutes. Despite these flaws, Dial Zero is worth downloading and checking out. Not only is it free, but it could save you some valuable time. Read More

11/02/2010 Logitech Revue Google TV Apps Review | andrew | Androinica, by Androinica

Apps are what make smartphones smarter. While the devices we purchase are still desirable as they ship, the appeal of expanding their feature set with apps drives smartphone adoption. Google TV is poised to do the same for home entertainment. Yes, the same platform that powers your phones and tablets has invaded your massive 50 inch screen with Google TV. Both the Logitech Revue set-top box and the Sony line of Google TV products have debuted to juice-up the television experience. While we won’t get any Android Market apps until early 2011, let’s look at what’s available now. My surround system is non-existent, but I still like to occasionally play music in my living room. That’s why I’m pleased to see that Pandora has an app. The presentation and design are all slick and reliable as this is basically a larger version of the Android app seen on phones. Pandora supports multitasking, so other apps can be used without stopping playback, but you can stop playback when exiting the app if you so desire. But, if you don’t want to use Chrome and listen to some songs, you’re given the option to stop music when exiting the app. I’ve heard people complain about sound quality on the Pandora Android app but I’ve always rated it as “good enough” for the free account. Audiophiles will not get the high-fidelity playback they crave, but they will get respectable sound quality worth blaring through your home entertainment system. Netflix support is Google’s greatest accomplishment in Google TV. It’s one of the most important services to have for any entertainment device, especially one centered on television and apps. Sadly, it’s also one of GTV’s greatest failures because it is so incomplete. Netflix gives users access to their instant streaming queue, which has picture quality as strong as one would expect with a quality web connection. Movies are listed with ratings, a synopsis, and important details, as well as giving users the ability to remove items or leave comments. Sadly, it doesn’t give much control for accessing new content. Only titles already in the Netflix queue are shown, so there’s no way to watch more Kevin James films after you’ve laughed yourself stupid while watching Paul Blart, Mall Cop. This app is Paul Blart: it has little to offer other than the most basic necessities. The standard Twitter for Android app has a design that feels Read More

10/15/2010 Dial Zero Android app download, by Technology blog

Published by Admin on October 14, 2010 | 0 Comment Dial Zero is a call assistance app for the Android platform. The app works on the same interface that the iPhone does and hence you can see a lot of user comments populating that particular field. You can search or browse for the companies and each one will open a profile page which will include the name of a company, the toll free number followed by the comments. You can actually dial the number directly from the page. You can go through the latest comments tab to view the latest comments. Not all the comments will be informative. This section is basically like a forum and hence you can check at regular intervals. The great down fall of this app is the comments area. We don’t think many will prefer this app over simply search through Google. License: Freeware Version: 1.1 Size: 300.3 KB You can download this app by scanning the QR Code given below. Read More

08/23/2010 Dial Zero for Android is a great idea (you can skip automated customer service systems!), but so, so poorly implemented, by Download Squad

It's such a fantastic concept: a database of customer service numbers with the buttons you need to push to skip the computers (and Indian call centers) to talk to a real, boner fidee Ameerikin who's just positively to be helping you with your problem. Unfortunately, while one of the best ideas I've ever seen, Dial Zero utterly fails in its implementation. It makes you wonder if the developer was under the effects of crack -- I mean, how hard is it to make a search box that actually searches? How about removing banner ads that obscure one of the most vital parts of the program? Don't get me started on the Latest Comments and Head-To-Head sections either -- I can't even begin to guess at their purpose. The sad thing is, Dial Zero for iPhone has a veritable feast of good reviews -- probably because it doesn't include hideous ads on every page of the app. Or maybe because the search function actually works. But the thing is, despite its abject awfulness, Dial Zero for Android still has a big list of customer service phone numbers. It still has some great tips for skipping the automated service, or how to get a USA-based representative. It even has a few UK numbers (but God help you if you think searching for 'UK' will bring them up...) And of course it's . Being free shouldn't excuse submoronic interface design, though. Read More

06/21/2010 Loopt Brings Background Location to the iPhone, by ReadWriteWeb

It looks like the first runner has crossed the finish line in the race to bringing background location functionality to the iPhone, and the winner is Loopt, an early entry in the location-based services arena. Aside from multitasking (or pseudo-multitasking, if you will) and those helpful organizer folders, background location was one of the most anticipated features of iOS 4, and Loopt clearly shows us why - even though it's just the tip of the background-location iceberg. Persistent location means one thing - you don't need to interact with your iPhone and let it know that you want it to check your location and give you information based on that data. Instead, you can allow your iPhone to consistently monitor your location in various apps and when it comes across a certain set of conditions, notify you. In the case of Loopt, this means that you don't have to walk around town checking in at every location you go. As Kim-Mai Cutler of Venture Beat writes, "users can now continuously share where they are with specific friends so they don't have to constantly "check-in" to places. If a friend happens to be nearby, the app will send you a push notification alerting you. (They can still do check-ins for acquaintances and a broader group of friends, however.)" As we wrote when we first heard about background location, the "list of ideas for background location are endless", from time- and place-specific advertising to the types of notifications we'll see from Loopt. Something like Urbanspon, so you can know when deals pop up around you for happy hour? Or maybe a traffic notification app that can alert you to a jam on the highway your driving ahead? What if Craigsphone could look up apartments as you travel around town and let you know when you near one meeting your requirements? Outside of the LBS arena, what apps are you excited about having access to your location in the background? Read More

05/29/2010 Dial Zero, by Android Tapp

Posted by Comments Quickly dial the customer service numbers of over 600 companies and skip directly to a person. Don’t wait through annoying voice prompts any longer. is useful, fast, and simple. Learn how others got what they wanted from these companies (refunds, canceling their account, etc.). “Top 9 Google Android Apps” –CNET Price: Free Pros Cons Ever need to call customer service for a particular product or service and were stuck sleuthing through manuals, online or phonebook to find it? Well… Dial Zero Android App is aimed to offer convenience when in need of a company’s customer service number and even offers some quick tips on menu options on how to get through in some cases. When installed it asks you to install Moov which is an app aimed to speed up search on your phone by only typing in a few letters in for contacts, Google, Facebook, Yelp, Wikipedia, Netflix, and Dial Zero. It’s a personal preference to grab the additional app but not needed. Gripe Alert: I would recommend only grabbing this app for the core feature of getting a large database of customer service numbers should you need it. The “Latest Comments” and “Head-to-Head” are filled with few complaints and praises for company’s products and service however riddled with more spam than NerdGirl’s spam box ever since we put her email addy online. The idea is good, just needs moderation. Scrolling the app is terrible as it could offer the Android fast-scroll when you need to quickly scroll a huge list, we recommend searching every entry. Even searching has it’s usability quirks. For example searching “tmobile” yields no results; you have to type the dash “t-mobile” to get results. Not an everyday use app however very handy when in need of its services. The user interface is as bland as Android comes but more useful for core features as it’s visual appeal. (3.6 out of 5) Should you Download Dial Zero? Yes! Very Useful for Large Database of Customer Service Numbers! Updating... You must be logged in to post a comment. Read More
