Matmi

It’s safe to say that Matmi is a pretty big deal in the realm of digital media. With our successes in digital strategies, building web experiences and advergames for a client list that includes such luminaries as Vimto, EMI and Comic Relief, Matmi is a guiding light in the field. It’d be pretty easy for us to just sit back and do what we’ve always done, but here at Matmi, the status quo just isn’t good enough.

11/02/2010 iPad craziness | matmi:blog, by Viral Games Advergames Viral Marketing Web Design by Matmi New Media Ltd

“In Multiball Pinball HD for the Apple iPad, the age-old game of pinball and the latest customer technology make some harmonious love to produce a high-octane pinball heaven.  With very easy-to-use controls, and plenty of colourful eye candy to look at, Multiball Pinball HD is a top-notch and inexpensive iPad app to check out.” That’s not us talking – that’s the well-respected AppModo – and we’re rather pleased with their review.  Matmi’s “Monster Pinball” was one of the first pinball games on the iPhone, so it’s only fair that we give the iPad a run for its money with another pinball extravaganza. Mango, the raygun-toting alien, plays host to a monstrously manic pinball table with not just one ball (crazy), not just two balls (insane) but three on the table at once (like doing a bungee jump while clinging onto your iPad to stay alive! Well not quite, but you get the picture).  It’s extreme!!! If you click through to the iTunes Store fast enough, you can even get Multiball Pinball on the iPad at sale price (and in High Definition, no less).  There aren’t that many iPad games around yet (although this is our second in 3 months…. ). C’mon!  You know you want to…. .   This entry was posted on Tuesday, October 12th, 2010 at 12:47 pm and is filed under Latest Work, Newsletter, Updates. Browsing the App Store this weekend?  Here are fourteen new or updated apps for the iPhone and iPad worth taking a closer look at if you are: The official board game comes to the iPhone!  Play against the game or with up to four friends over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, earn achievements, attack the enemy and win!  $4.99/£2.99. An arcade/action/RPG with cute cartoon-like graphics and addictive gameplay.  This weekend, you can pick this up for 50% off its regular price.  $0.99/£0.59. A pool simulation exclusively for the iPhone 4.  It features 9-ball and both UK and US versions of 8-ball, 3 difficultly levels and has a one or two-player mode.  The graphics look absolutely stunning in the screenshots!  $2.99/£1.79. As you would expect, you can set many different timers for varying durations.  Free. A clever variation on the match-three style games, where for each three you create, a ‘flask’ fills until it reaches the top and you move onto the next level.  Great graphics too!  $2.99/£1.79. The iPhone version of the iPad game comes close to matching the marble flicking fun experienced there, with three modes of play, 1-4 players, realistic physics and Facebook leaderboards.  $0.99/£0.59. Another match-three game, this time with a ‘green’ theme set in the ocean, with very attractive graphics.  $1.99/£1.19. 07/27/2010 The Port Report: 'Gorillaz – Escape to Plastic Beach', 'Somersault', and 'Furcadia', by Touch Arcade

The App Store is home to a huge number of ports, from an array of retro games to customized versions of open source titles like Battle for Wesnoth [$4.99 - iPhone / iPad] and Frogatto [$4.99]. Recently three more ports made their way to the iOS family of devices, and while I didn't think any of them were that great, they have enough notoriety behind them that surely someone will be interested. Gorillaz - Escape to Plastic Beach, $1.99 [iPhone / iPad] - To go with their recent album release, the Gorillaz have created a three episode online game. The first two episodes are Flash based and free to play, while the third chapter has been developed in Unity and is pay to play for both the iPhone and the Unity browser plugin. It's hard to say which is the port, but the iPhone version sports tilt controls. Curiously enough, there's also an iPad version of the game for the same price, which has left me scratching my head as to why they didn't just make the whole game universal. Gameplay is similar to that of Glu's Glyder [99¢ / Free] and Glyder 2 for the iPad [Free] in that you're just flying around through hoops and updrafts completing various objectives. If you're a Gorillaz fan the game might be worth checking out because they do a decent job of recreating the cool Gorillaz universe from the music videos, but if the Gorillaz don't do much for you, neither will escaping to Plastic Beach. Somersault, $5.99 - Using the same Unity browser plugin from the Gorillaz game you can try out the first level of online for free. The computer game has won some awards and developers are calling the "indie game of the year". I'm not sure I'd go that far, but at least the control mechanic of using your finger to draw lines for your little guy to bounce off of works much better on the iPhone than it does on the computer with a mouse. Somersault has some nice level design, and it's pretty cool how they managed to turn the "draw lines to bounce things" control mechanic in to an entire adventure game. The developers are also very active in our forums, which is always a good sign. If the above trailer looks at all interesting to you, at least give the free versions a try. While Read More
