08/04/2011 Slidelight iPad App Is A Flipboard-Instagram Hybrid, by CrunchGear

Jordan Crook studied English Literature at New York University before entering the tech space. Prior to joining TechCrunch, Crook dabbled in mobile marketing and mobile apps as well as doing device reviews for MobileMarketer and MobileBurn. Crook is fascinated with alternative energy production and greentech. She is now a writer for CrunchGear. → Learn More A new iPad app out of Warsaw, Poland may have what it takes to be the Flipboard of photography. Dubbed Slidelight and published by Macoscope, the app does most of the heavy lifting for you, pulling in Instagram pictures through various filters and formatting them in the most enjoyable way possible. In fact, according to the app description, Slidelight is “packed with such an amount of joy it’s like an endorphins overdose.” While we’re not quite sure if you’ll actually keel over from all the fun, all in all this looks like a pretty beautiful app. Slidelight filters photos from Instagram into categories like bikes, commuting, puppies, cats, European capitals, shapes and sizes, music, macro photography, sports, fashion, and design, among others. But the overdose-inducing joy doesn’t stop there. Slidelight also grabs photos taken in your area and creates a special little location-based filter (a bit like Color). Another filter — one I predict will be one of the most popular categories within Slidelight — is for celebrities’ Instagram pics. Remember that one time Justin Bieber took an incredibly uninteresting picture of traffic and Instagram blew up? Well, that picture of cars on a freeway would fall into this category. Obviously, you can sign into Instagram and have a filter based on your and your friends’ photos, too. The app is currently listed for $2.99 in the Apple App Store and requires iOS 4.2 or later. 05/31/2011 Code Pilot 2.0 with XCode 4 compatibility, by TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog

Macoscope has released version 2.0 of its Xcode navigation plug-in, Code Pilot. Technically, it's still a beta -- judging from the 2.0b6 version number -- but it's been rock solid for me so far. This version brings Xcode 4 compatibility and a revamped interface. If you code and you haven't tried it, definitely take a look. Code Pilot attaches to Shift-Command-X in Xcode, and the hotkey brings up a HUD with a search field focused. As you type, it quickly and intelligently filters the files in your project down to the one you were looking for. It also searches symbol names across the board or within the selected file (add a space after the filename). It's similar to Xcode's Open Quickly, but smarter and easier to install than PeepCode's PeepOpen (which is great in MacVim and TextMate but a bit less friendly in Xcode). Macoscope, also behind Productive! Magazine for iPad and the Nozbe apps for iPad and iPhone, has gained a reputation for refined design. Code Pilot is a great example of smart, unobtrusive UI with some serious utility behind it. The free download is good for 10 days, at which point you'll need a license (US$29.95). Users who purchased v1.x in 2011 get v2.0 for free, and 1.x owners who purchased before that get a 50% discount. Read More

11/05/2010 Nozbe’s iPad app updated again; Productive! magazine goes native on Apple’s tablet, by IntoMobile

Nozbe has once again updated its iPad application, this time bringing some features that are not even available on their web-based service. The update adds two new views — “Unread Comments” and “Delegated Actions” — both of which sound useful to me. Of course, the company said these views will also hit the iPhone/iPod Touch users in the near future, too. In the other Nozbe news, they brought the issue #5 of their Productive! Magazine to the AppStore. Available as a native app for iPad, it’s more convenient to read but that pleasure costs a buck (99 cents actually). The idea is to bring the back and future issues to the AppStore if enough users jump on board. The PDF version is still free, though not as handy as a native iPad app. Finally, Nozbe wowed to bring its mobile app to other platforms, including Android and BlackBerry. The date is set at “late November” and we’ll definitely talk more about it as soon as something new comes up. Nozbe for iPhone ($4.99) [iTunes link] Nozbe for iPad ($14.99) [iTunes link] Productive! Magazine ($0.99) [iTunes link] Dusan has been using smartphones since their introduction and is now following the latest trends in the industry. The "convergence" is what he's most excited about, and writing about it is the next logical thing to do. He thinks that using a smartphone is what everyone who cares about their time should do. In addition to his interests in mobile phones, Dusan also loves to experiment with the latest web and mobile 2.0 services. The idea of accessing and managing your information from any device no matter where you are simply amazes him. Whether it's an online to-do list, note taking service or a video sharing social network, he's there to try it out. He admits though, he's still searching for the ultimate web-based organizational tool, which "sings" perfectly with the mobile PIM application. Dusan used to run SymbianWatch.com which later became part of IntoMobile. He lives in Serbia, South-East Europe, from where he edits the site on a daily basis. Read More

07/30/2010 Nozbe for iPad 1.1 integrates Evernote with your projects, by TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog

We've mentioned GTD app Nozbe a few times before, but not since the release of their iPad app. If you're looking for a complete, easy-to-use task management app for your iPad and haven't checked it out, here's your kick in the pants to take a look. Nozbe was originally a web-based application (still is), and creator Michael Sliwinski (also editor of Productive! magazine) has continued to develop amazing features into the web version. One of the more recent developments was Evernote integration, where you could tag projects in Nozbe with tags used on notes in Evernote, and have your Evernote notes show up when viewing projects in Nozbe. The latest version of the iPad app includes this functionality, along with improved file attachment handling. The Nozbe iPad app is a full-fledged task manager which doesn't require a subscription to the web app to be fully-functional. In my opinion, though, the online synchronization and ubiquitous availability of your tasks on any platform is a major part of the appeal of this application. The iPad app is easy to use and easy to understand, offering full GTD compliance while not inundating you with choices and options that just make task management too complex. There's a version of Nozbe for iPhone as well, and they all sync together via the web application. Among the many features of Nozbe that impress me are the myriad ways of getting tasks into your lists. From Twitter to plain text import, email, Dashboard widgets and, of course, the iPhone and iPad apps, finding a method that fits your workflow is an easy task. For the geeks, there's even an API that's pretty well fleshed out, allowing you to create your own means of adding tasks, checking them off, managing projects and more. I do long for a Mac desktop app, but I'm finding plenty of ways to make it just as easy to use the web version, and discovering that there are benefits to "working in the cloud" when it comes to task management. If you're just interested in the iPad app, pick it up on the App Store for $14.99US, and check out the iPhone version for $4.99US. Subscriptions to the web version start at $7.50 per month (if you prepay a year). You can have a go at the free trial, too, and see if it's a good fit for you. Read More
