Nubilous

| $1.99 | CocoLab.pl
Posted by Marcus Nguyen on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 2:00 pm.   The iOS weather app has always been one that has offered the most basic information around. Although Nubilous’ mission is not to out-feature the stock Weather app, it, instead, plans to destroy it with a simplistic, minimalistic design that is sure to please. Although it succeeds in upping Apple with an even more simplistic, even more user-friendly UI, its price tag can weigh against it.  Read on for the full review. OK, this is really where Nubilous is crippled. It offers most of the features the stock iOS weather app has, but at the same time, it doesn’t out-feature it in anyway. When you first start up the app, it will ensure you aren’t on Venus or Mars by searching the Milky Way for your location. If you aren’t on another planet (or moon), it will then tell you where you are and get you your weather you wish to have. The features, as I stated, aren’t bountiful, it does tell you how the weather is at the time you are using the app. However, it fails to give vital information. It will tell you rain or shine, thundering or clear, it’ll even give you a number to represents the temperature. It won’t, however, give you wind gusts, visibility, etc. For bare-bones weather, this app will suffice. Outside the current weather conditions, it will also give users a six day outlook as well as an overview of how each day will look if you tap on a given day. No hourly forecast is given though, so if you’re planning your day on the hour, this may not be for you. Design would be a much better term for this category as that is essentially what this app is Read More

The Daily for iPhone

| FREE | The Daily Holdings, Inc.
Posted by Joe Rossignol on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 9:46 am.   While the iPad might be considered the de facto iOS device for reading news and books, the iPhone and iPod touch also provide a great experience for reading content with the same high resolution Retina display that the iPad has. There are already a variety of reading apps available for the iPhone and iPod touch, including Zine, Flipboard, and PressReader, but who says there isn’t room for one more? News Corp has officially launched The Daily app for iPhone and iPod touch, over a year after the app was released as the first newspaper published solely for the iPad. The Daily is a subscription-based publication that is now available in iPhone and iPod touch flavors for half the price. A subscription to The Daily on the iPhone or iPod touch will run you just $1.99 a month, or $19.99 per year, which is half off the 99 cents per week or $39.99 per year price for an iPad subscription. The app itself is available from the App Store as a free download. Read More

Spotify

| FREE | Spotify Ltd.
Posted by Jacob Penderworth on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 6:51 am.   The widely popular music streaming service Spotify has finally brought their service to the iPad with a native app and the full Retina display experience. Instead of a separate “HD” app like some services release, Spotify has updated their iPhone app to become universal, now including access to 18 million songs in a beautiful way on your iPad. The Spotify iPad app is here! Listen to the world’s music collection on your iPad. Enjoy millions of songs in an instant. Love, discover and share music like never before with the Spotify iPad app. Spotify itself is pretty reliable, though they do require that you have a Facebook account to use the service which is kind of annoying. Other than that, there’s a big war between them and Rdio. If you want music, then go with Spotify because they have a far better collection. If you want a better design and far better apps, then I’d personally recommend Rdio any day. But hey, it’s probably best to use whatever your friends do since you’re probably looking to discover some music. If you already own Spotify for iPhone, then just go update it to version 0.5.0, which brings gapless playback and cross fading to this version, along with two bug fixes. If you don’t own it, then consider trying out Spotify on your iPad. There is a 48-hour trial of the $9.99 per month Premium service, so go discover some music and tell us what you think! Additional fixes and improvements: • New: Gapless playback and cross fading. • Fixed: Offline synced playlists can no longer be removed by the system. • Fixed: Crashes related to updating playlists or starring tracks. Sparrow

| $2.99 | Sparrow
Posted by Joe Rossignol on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 12:53 pm.   Sparrow+ by FreeManRepo is a new jailbreak tweak that allows you to set Sparrow as the default mail client in iOS, replacing the official Mail app when you perform system mail functions. Sparrow+ also enables push notifications for Sparrow — like SparrowPush — something that the app’s developers did not include in the application when it was released on the App Store. Sparrow is a popular desktop mail client that has made its way to iOS, much to the delight of iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users. Sparrow is available for $2.99 from the App Store, while Sparrow+ is available for free from Cydia under the BigBoss repository. Remember to enable Sparrow as the default mail client in Settings after installing the Sparrow+ tweak. Do you use Sparrow? Read More
