Jelly Defense creator Infinite Dreams is joining in on the sales fun alongside a gaggle of other developers. Until the 21st of this month, you can grab all of its games at a (now) freshly discounted price. Games like Let's Create Pottery and Jelly Defense, for example, are now just $.99, while others like Shoot The Birds and Sky Force have gone entirely free. Here's the full list of what it's offering. And do note that these only extend a few days -- this isn't your everyday seasonal sale, in other words. We definitely suggest Jelly Defense at this price. Sure, it's pretty middle of the road as far as its tower defense play is concerned, but the art and character really makes it a must-have kinda game. Infinite really wants you to check out Can Knockdown 2 at its free price point, too, for what that's worth. I enjoyed the game enough to buy stage 5, but it's not working. When I scroll to stage 5, it says I need to buy it, but when I do it spins forever. I did eventually get the in app purchase confirmation to come up, but I was actually in another app at the time. I approved it, and now the stage is still unavailable, but Apple says I've already purchased it but it has not been downloaded. How do I force the game to download the stage? This is the first in app purchase I've ever done... iTunes Link: Astro Bang HD is a very cool 3d game. Fly your spaceship around different planets. Destroy asteroids. Infinite Dreams has jollied up its tower defense title Jelly Defense [$2.99] in celebration of the season. In a new content update that you can grab right now for the price of free, Infinite Dreams has added two all new winter-themed levels, laid down a new music track, dropped in some new leaderboard support, and thrown in a new endless level. Reindeer and cookies are a part of this package as you'll see, and of course, so are optimizations and refinements. Jelly Defense is a straight-up tower defense title; it's not going to offer you anything you haven't seen before mechanic-wise. But it does have a ton of style. Seeing Infinite do Christmas like it has in Jelly Defense is definitely a treat, so give these levels a look if you haven't updated your app yet. Oh! And if you're on the fence about it, take a gander our our official review. #12 11-28-2011, 09:14 PM Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Posts: 107 This game has a huge bug: All the freemium stuff (gold, tickets, etc) can be had for free in unlimited quantities. And the bonus is back. On this week's bonus edition of the TouchArcade show, I go solo and speak with Infinite Dreams co-founder Marek Wyszyński about the creation of [$2.99], his co-studio's past and present, and how it approaches design as a whole. I really love the way this studio does its art, so that's a pretty big theme throughout. I'm not completely solo in this one, I should note. President-in-Chief Eli Hodapp joins me for some particularly insightful intro and outro segments. As always, you can give us a listen via the links just below or subscribe to us on iTunes and Zune. We'll be back next week with another bonus edition, as well as this Friday with a regularly scheduled TouchArcade Show. Have fun! Michael (Admin) | Oct 31, 2011 User rating: (No Ratings Yet) Loading ... We’ve reviewed a lot of Halloween apps over the past few years… here’s a quick look at some of our favorites! Singing Pumpkins is just one of those Halloween soundboard apps… tap and hear a spooky sound, and this one also makes goofy musical notes… but if I remember correctly it’s really well done and the kids will probably get a kick out of it. Take your Halloween pics and dress them up with this greeting card app! It’s pretty slick and if you’re sending kiddie costume pics to the grandparents I’m sure they’ll be impressed as hell. The C@rds line of greeting cards covers pretty much every major Hallmark holiday, and the C@rds Master app contains a sampling of all of them with in-app purchasing if you want an entire set that’s specifically Halloween or Christmas or whatever. Or you just grab Halloween C@rds and be done with it. It’s one of the best greeting card apps out there! For realz. I’m a little old for wordsearch apps, but assuming your kids aren’t then this is a nice freebie to entertain them with! This game was free when I reviewed it recently, but I’d totally pay a dollar for it! And it’s not necessarily a Halloween game, but the scarecrow pumpkinhead guy who does all the shooting certainly looks very Halloweeny. Here’s a nicely done Halloween jigsaw puzzle game. Tell the kids that they have to complete all of the puzzles before they get any candy and they’ll be out of your hair for hours! Crazy Pumpkin was free back in the day, but now it costs a buck. :( There is, however, a free lite version that you can try out if your budget is thin but you’re really in the mood to make some cute Halloween pumpkin faces. I just reviewed this game not too long ago and it’s not bad! Monster Munch is a nice Halloween-themed casual game and the price is definitely right. That does it for this Halloween app roundup! What, you want more? Have a safe Halloween, check the kids’ candy for razorblades, call a cab if you’re too hammered to drive, etc. etc. See that? IAR cares! P.S. This terrifying pic was made with Halloween Pumpkinizer ($.99) (iTunes) Read More
By Rob LeFebvre on October 20th, 2011 More app deals right here, including two games and an RSS reader. Check it out! Tired of scrolling through the long and comprehensive Price Drop Lists pages? Wish someone would give you a break from that daily grind? Well, here you are – three more top app deals from the depths of our love for you all: Shoot the Birds – Was $1.99, now FREEOur reviewer liked it, saying, “Like many of Infinite Dreams games, the premise and gameplay are simple, but strangely compelling…the game offers a short burst of visceral satisfaction gamers will return to again and again.” Simple RSS+ – Was $2.99, now FREE It’s getting harder and harder to compete in the RSS reader category, with so many good apps out there. This app just went free to do just that. Homerun Battle 3D – Was $4.99, now $0.99 From our review, “An extremely fun arcade game with a fantastic online matchup mode. This game is must-buy for baseball fans and non-baseball fans alike.” Read More
Savvy App Store shoppers know that great deals come and go quickly. If you want to download the very best full-length games when they temporarily become free, you need to check out our app, Gamefinder, and our newest feature, Free Today. Shoot The Birds Are you frustrated that Angry Birds and Tiny Wings always top the App Store charts? Now you can take it out on these feathered pests with a fiery crossbow. In this fun shooter, you must time each crossbow shot to arc through the air, impale a few familiar-looking birds, and then fall back down to earth, skewering a few more along the way. A Tiny Wings-style multiplier and achievement system makes Shoot The Birds a blast to replay, and the whole game is completely free today. Our Score: 3 out of 4 Our Bottom Line: Shoot the Birds has you do as the title suggests, and not much more. Even so, this score attack-styled game is good for passing the time. Super Mega Worm Vs Santa If you're looking for a real nightmare before Christmas, you can download this Super Mega Worm spin-off for free today. In Super Mega Worm Vs. Santa, you'll summon Wojira, an ancient, evil worm that tunnels underground and surfaces only to feed. In this version, you can devour Santa, elves, and reindeer, making it a sick and twisted way to get into the holiday spirit. Our Score: 3 out of 4 Our Bottom Line: Super Mega Worm Vs. Santa is a fun, snowy version of the original, but nothing more. Gravity Guy That guy from Canabalt knew how to run and jump, but gravity was not his friend. Gravity Guy has a much better command of physics-- as you run and jump through this game's bite-sized levels, you can tap the screen to run on the ceiling. Miniclip is known for making some great games, like Fragger, so take advantage of this chance to download their twitchy platformer for free today. Our Score: 3 out of 4 Our Bottom Line: Run, run! Or you'll be well-done! Watee So you've collected three rubber duckies on each stage in Where's My Water?, and you're looking for a new challenge? Check out Watee, from new iOS developers Unnyhog. It's a tricky puzzle game where you have to move and rotate objects to get water into a fishbowl. This game combines fun water physics with a Read More
+ Universal App $2.99 Our Review By Jennifer Allen on October 4th, 2011 Rating: :: PRETTY & DIFFICULT Jelly Defense is a tower defense game that offers plenty of style over substance. Developer: Price: $0.99 Version Reviewed: 1.04 Device Reviewed On: iPhone 4 Graphics / Sound Rating: Game Controls Rating: Gameplay Rating: Replay Value Rating: Overall Rating: There’s certainly no shortage of tower defense games on the App store with the mighty Plants vs. Zombies still ruling the roost, but what about trying something different? Jelly Defense definitely wins in terms of looks and music. Located on a planet inhabited by a series of jelly based creatures of both the good variety and the bad, everything is quirky yet distinctive. The music is similarly unique and fun, with a very catchy vibe going on. What’s not quite so different from the pack is the gameplay behind these delightful aesthetics. Following typical tower defense tropes, each level consists of the invading jelly forces marching along windy paths in their quest to reach and ultimately steal the player’s gems that form the base. A series of pre-defined spots are available for placing defensive units that can fight back. Each unit comes in one of two different colors, either red or blue, which relate to how they can attack. One color units can only attack other units of the same color, with the exception of towers that are half red and half blue. Each unit has a limited range too which can create trouble. Basic upgrades are possible as well as the option of researching new types of jelly, each of these options adding considerable pressure to the player’s limited finances. You see, Jelly Defense is far from an easy tower defense game. It’s actually very unforgiving after the first few levels. Success is mostly down to placing the right tower in the right slot at the right time with not much room for error. The sluggish nature of defensive units compared to the speed of the enemy does nothing to help matters. There’s still fun to be had for the patient gamer but much time will be spent figuring things out through trial and error rather than strategical thinking. Each level provides increasingly longer waves of fighting which in turn extends the stage and opens up the opportunity to fail more so. While Jelly Defense is pretty formulaic, it is fun for a Read More
Once a week, we pay special tribute to the App Store's hardworking indie game developers with Under The Radar. These five games are original enough to stand out from the pack, even if they don't have big budgets or brand-name recognition. Here are this week's indie picks. Got a bad case of Angry Birds and Tiny Wings rage? In this twisted take on those two games, you don't shoot the birds out of a slingshot-- you impale them with a crossbow. You'll earn extra points for sticking multiple birds on one arrow, and for completing certain objectives, before the sun sets in the background. Even though it's a Tiny Wings satire, Shoot The Birds has that game's same objective/multiplier mechanic to keep you playing. Price: $.99 We're rarely impressed by new Fruit Ninja-like slicing games, but Sushi Chop is the exception. In this realistic-looking game, you have to hack at flying fish, shrimp, and octopi so that four neat little pieces of seafood land on your rice. In an alternate mode, you have to only slice the fish that the customers request. If you screw up too many orders, or accidentally cut up the stinky, rotten fish, it's game over. Price: $.99 In another corner of the war between pigs and birds, the air battle rages on. Pigs in Trees is all about defending your piggy's treehouse from woodpeckers by intercepting them with a biplane. To do this, you have to draw a path, Flight Control-style, and blow them out of the sky. Charming graphics and simple controls make Pigs in Trees a solid line-drawing game. Price: $.99 In this fun little puzzle game, you have to direct your UFO's tractor beams to rescue your alien crew. You only have a limited number of reflectors you can place to guide the beam, so you have to think carefully about where to place them. One really nice touch is the animation on your UFO as it successfully zips out of each level. Price: $.99 When aliens abduct the planet's carrot supply, only one flying bunny is brave enough to get them back. In Carrot War, you have to draw lines on the screen to connect glowing dots around each enemy. You only have a certain amount of "ink" to connect these dots, but it refills when you're not attacking. At the same time, you have to drag your bunny out of harm's Read More
A while back, developer Infinite Dreams promised that if they could get to 5,000 “Likes” on their Facebook page that they would drop the price of their vertical shmup Sky Force [Link] to free for 48 hours. Yesterday they hit that goal, and true to their word you can now grab the full version of Sky Force for zero dollars. Sky Force on iOS was released is actually a port of a game that Infinite Dreams had created several years ago for PocketPC, Palm, and various other handheld devices. It feels a little old-school compared to some of the other shmup offerings on the App Store, but Sky Force is still a really solid shooter that’s actually a lot of fun. There are 8 different missions to play through and 3 different ships that you can use, each with their own unique attributes. The goal of each level is to destroy a set percentage of the enemies before you reach the end. There are a few different weapon upgrades to pick up along the way, and there are even survivors that can be rescued for additional points at the end of a level (providing you are eagle-eyed enough to spot them). Sky Force doesn’t seem like much compared to some of the more contemporary shmup releases out there, but it’s a really decent little game that should appeal to shmup fans looking for a new fix. It’s definitely worth a download while free, and if you enjoy it like I do, then I can easily recommend its sequel Sky Force Reloaded [$1.99/Lite] (which actually appeared on iOS before the original did) for more of the same style of gameplay with new levels and a few additional tweaks.
