About this time last year, he gave us his picks of the best iPhone apps of 2009 up until then, so we thought we’d make it an annual tradition. I’ve been involved in the iPhone app industry since it first began in 2008 and I have to say that it has come a long way. I’ve seen it grow from a meager launch of 500 applications in the App Store to currently over 225,000. In only two years, the industry has matured at hyperspeed. It spawned an entire ecosystem to support it from a multitude of news and editorial resources to developer engines, promotional services and ancillary niches. With over five billion app downloads and a billion dollars at stake, it’s no surprise that the app economy expanded so quickly. However, the novelty land grab is definitely over. When you run a search on the App Store, most of the gimmicks have already been created—at least twice. Clones still litter the store and it’s becoming even more difficult for quality apps to get noticed. But, if you have a bit of patience and are willing to sift through less exciting apps, there are some fantastic gems just waiting to be discovered. So without further ado, here are my top 30 picks for applications released this year thus far. Try one or try them all. Games: Launch birds from a slingshot to topple buildings and crush piggies. There’s a reason this game has been No. 1 on the Paid List for so long. Addictive only starts to explain it. 2. Plants Vs Zombies (review, iTunes) A defense game by casual game creators PopCap. Protect your home from an invasion of zombies by placing plants that shoot, freeze, blow-up, crush, or generally obliterate your foes. So simple, but strangely satisfying. Swipe to slice 3D fruit as it enters your screen. Great visuals and gratifying delivery. One of the best 3D arena shooters for the iPhone. Smooth multiplayer and easy handling. If you’re going to play a first-person shooter on the go, this is the one. A rhythm-fighting game based on Japanese folklore. Very unique with top-notch production values. Eccoci con un nuovo appuntamento dell’, la nostra rubrica in cui vi elenchiamo le migliori applicazioni dell’AppStore che vengono scontate per un periodo di tempo limitato. Oggi ci sono diverse offerte compresa quella della promozione Free App A Day! . Un gioco retrò dotato di una buona fisica realistica e 48 livelli. Lo scopo è quello di atterrare su un pianeta con l’astronave rimanendo sani e salvi ed evitando i forti impetti. Passa da 0,79€ a Gratis. [Link iTunes] . Ottima applicazione che fa da antifurto per il vostro iPhone. L’abbiamo recensita qui, quindi vi consigliamo di leggere tutti i dettagli sul suo funzionamento e di guardare i 3 video dimostrativi. E’ un puzzle game molto carino in cui controllermo un topino in vari labirinti con lo scopo di riuscire a prendere il formaggio. Un passatempo. Passa da 0,79€ a Gratis. [Link iTunes] . Un’applicazione che unisce la bussola alle mappe di Google. La scelta di Apple di tenere le due applicazioni separate, non è ben vista da molti quindi grazie ad UrbanCompass le avrete entrambe in una sola applicazione e vi permetterà di capire con precisione quale strada prendere. Richiede iPhone 3GS. Passa da 0,79€ a Gratis [Link iTunes] . E’ un’applicazione che ne include altre 50 al suo interno! E’ un megapack molto ricco. Le Applicazioni al suo interno sono molto semplici, ad esempio troviamo un convertitore di valuta, un visualizzatore di batteria, un orologio digitale, un timer per la fotocamera, un traduttore, alcuni tool per Twitter e Facebook e tanto altro.  Ogni applicazione è accessibile tramite la sua icona su una sorta di SpringBoard. Per farlo dovremo semplicemente posizionare il nostro dito sul gattino e potremo poi trascinarlo per tutto lo schermo evitando i dischi rotanti e le altre trappole mortali che ci verranno addosso. Free games are almost as awesome as free samples at the grocery store, or maybe more awesome depending on how you look at it. Three cool games are free today, and like most price changes, they will only be free for a short period of time so it's best not to wait before downloading these games. Alchemize looks to be a simple match 3, but the gameplay is actually quite complex with all kinds of things to unlock, different game modes, and other surprises. We liked the game in our review, and it's really worth checking out to see how they managed to mix up the match 3 formula. While I wasn't really crazy about this naval tower defense game when it was first released, it has since been updated a ton with all kinds new content, gameplay tweaks, achievements, and OpenFeint integration with online leaderboards. Where most word finding games have you frantically searching for words to beat a timer, Textropolis has much more laid back gameplay that allows players to search for words made from the letters found in the names of 30 different included cities at their own pace. Today we have a nice mix of games for you to download for free from three different indie developers.  The genres include music/drawing, sports, and tower defense, which hopefully means that you will at least find something to enjoy this evening. : Appy Entertainment’s spin on the music game featuring a line-drawing mechanic.  The game requires you to draw the shapes that enter the screen before they run into Groov-EE the dancing boom-box.  If you don’t draw the shape successfully, he will lose energy and you will eventually lose.  You can score multipliers by drawing the shape multiple times before reaching Groov-EE to score even more points. Tune Runner allows you to play any of the music on your device, or you can choose to play the single included song by Angel & Airwaves. The game is free and ad-based, but you can upgrade to the premium version for $1.99 or buy more energy as an in-app purchase.  If you don’t want to spend any money at all, you can participate in a drawing free for all to build up more energy. ($.99 -> Free): Air hockey mechanized.  The game features your usual air hockey physics-based gameplay, but spruces the experience up with unique visuals and sounds. The game features 23 premade levels, multiple customization options, single and multiplayer gameplay, and OpenFeint for leader boards and achievements. Navy Patrol: Coastal Defense Advanced ($4.99 -> Free): A tower defense game brought to you by ICS Mobile, the founders of FreeAppADay.com.  This game was actually available for free yesterday as part of the same promotion, but the developers have decided to extend it for another day.
