Read More

12/09/2010 Infinity Blade Review: Simple Gameplay, Cleverly Packaged, by TheAppleBlog

Infinity Blade is possibly the most-hyped iOS game release to date. The title, developed by Epic Games’ ChAIR Entertainment studio, got a lot of attention thanks to an early demo of its graphics engine in the app Epic Citadel. Now that it’s actually arrived as a game you can play, how does it stack up? Be warned, there be spoilers below, but also know that story is not what Infinity Blade is about. Let me make something abundantly clear: This is a gorgeous game. It’s the best-looking game I’ve seen on my iPhone 4′s Retina Display, and the best on the iPad, too. I haven’t had the chance to see how it works on an iPhone 3GS or iPod touch, but it runs very smoothly on Apple’s latest phone and tablet hardware. You can see many pretty pictures of just how nice Infinity Blade looks in the gallery at the end of this post. Gameplay initially held some disappointment for me. Unlike in Epic Citadel, you aren’t free to move about the game world in Infinity Blade. It’s an on-rails experience, with pulsing circles directing your attention to places you can travel to. Generally speaking, you have one choice. Sometimes, you have two. Along the way, you can tap gold, potions or chests to get items, and you can change the camera angle, but there is no exploration or open world environment. When you start the game, you’re presented with an opponent barring your way. Tapping on that enemy puts you into combat, or you can tap a circular blue “i” icon to get more information about him. You can block, dodge or parry attacks in order to get opponents to drop their guard, and then attack with your weapon. If you attack without first breaking an enemy’s defence, you’ll only do minor damage. You can also use a special power attack when fully charged, which automatically breaks an enemy’s guard. Finally, you can also use magic to cast spells with gestures you draw on the screen, which can be either offensive or defensive. Fighting opponents earns you (surprise!) experience, and money, which you can spend on equipment. You “master” equipment by using it in battle, which grants you skill point upgrades. Levelling up also nabs you new skill points which you can assign to your attributes as you like. You’ll probably be amazed at how fast you burn through the Read More

12/09/2010 [iOS-Game] Infinity Blade (+ Video), by iPhoneBlog.de

Infinity Blade erreicht den App Store. Soweit die gute Nachricht am heutigen Morgen. Viele betrübende Anmerkungen folgen. Als ‘Epic Citadel’ (kostenlos; App Store-Link) kündigte Epic Games auf Apples September Event ein iOS-Spiel an, das auf die Unreal Engine 3 zurückgreift. Ohne Frage: Grandios! That said, after playing through the same environment with the same enemies five times before I was strong enough to put the God King in his place, Infinity Blade was starting to wear a little thin. Die Spielergemeinde erwartete “To infinity, and beyond!”-Momente. Read More

11/05/2010 Witness the ridiculously pretty trailer for Infinity Blade for iOS, by iSource

I can’t write too much about this trailer because I’m still using one hand to hold my jaw up (after it dropped, y’know), but do take a look at what the folks who made Epic Citadel plan to release on the iOS platform. The video above is so pretty, it’s stupid. Sorry to the folks on iOS devices, though — this vid is Flash. Read More

11/05/2010 'Infinity Blade' Creative Director Calls it a Blend Between 'Karateka', 'Dragon's Lair', and 'Punch-Out', by Touch Arcade

We've been kind of going crazy with Infinity Blade news lately, but it's hard to not get excited for the first real game to come to the iOS platform that utilizes Unreal Engine 3 technology. Sure, Epic Citadel [Free] is an excellent display of the power of the platform, but it's little more than a tech demo. MTV Multiplayer also had some time with Chair creative director Donald Mustard and they were able to get even more details regarding just what we can expect of the game. Mustard confirms that the castle in is in fact different from the one found in , and went on to discuss the sword fighting nature of the game: He then goes on to describe Infinity Blade as "a blend between 'Karateka,' 'Dragon's Lair,' 'Punch-Out,' with a whole bunch of other 'Chair-ness' thrown into it." We'll be able to explore the castle for loot in between battles, and while we knew there was going to be free post-launch updates, I don't think anyone expected the amount that they're planning which Donald Mustard is describing as "like a constant stream of free content," citing games like Pocket God and Doodle Jump as examples of how well updating works. If you're as excited as we are about Infinity Blade, be sure to read the full interview and if you haven't already, take a look at the trailer we posted earlier today.   #3   Yesterday, 01:47 PM Senior Member iPad 2, OS 4.x Join Date: Jul 2010 Location: Denmark Posts: 413 So good looking (apart from a bit of framerate drop when turning). But it is really beauiful and soothing. Nice stress reliever. I cant help but wish this was expanded to some kind of relaxing RPG with a goal. Anyways nice job. Love the nature. 11/03/2010 Project Sword será Infinity Blade y estará disponible estas Navidades, by EsferaiPhone

Read More

11/03/2010 The iPad has Been Delicious, Musical and Now Electric!, by iPhoneFreak

Yes, it’s time for a new Apple iPad TV ad and as we said in the title, this time the iPad is electric!  The format remains the same though, as we’re treated to a variety of apps being used, some fingers being pointed, some typing and a sly aside concerning their competitors smaller tablets! The 30-second commercial features an array of apps, which we’ve gathered for you below, complete with a link to the iTunes store so you don’t have to go hunting. Some stock iPad applications are featured too, in the shape of Mail, iTunes University and Iron Man 2 playing as a video.  It’s also interesting to note that during the Epic Citadel spot we see two knights about to fight, something that happened during Epic’s demo, but not in the character-less version available at the moment. Enjoy the ad itself below: Read More

11/03/2010 Details on Epic's Project Sword, now called Infinity Blade, by TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog

During last September's press event, representatives from Epic Games demonstrated "Project Sword," an impresive title running the Unreal Engine inside iOS. Today, that game has been re-named Infinity Blade and new screenshots have been released. Slide to Play notes that Infinity Blade will be the first iOS game to use the Unreal Engine 3. They expect it to hit both the iPad and iPhone "this holiday season." As for gameplay, expect the typical fantasy/medieval RPG stuff, like raging monsters, experience points, items galore and so on. In the new screenshots we see our hero battling a ridiculously oversized baddie. Let's hope that's a boss. Right now there's no word on pricing or a solid release date. If you just can't wait, check out the demo called Epic Citadel (free). It doesn't do much other than let you explore the town from a first-person perspective, but boy is it gorgeous, especially on a retina display. We'll let you know when Infinity Blade finally comes out. Read More
