01/30/2012 First 3 'Ace Attorney' Games Being Remastered, Heading to iOS, by Touch Arcade

Fans of witty, courtroom-based gameplay have something to look forward to on the App Store soon. During a Japanese press event over the weekend that saw the announcement of Ace Attorney 5, Capcom also went on to announce that the first 3 Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney games would be getting an HD makeover and are coming to iOS as Ace Attorney 123HD, according to Andriasang. The original Phoenix Wright [$4.99] from the Game Boy Advance was ported to the Nintendo DS in 2005, and then ported again to iOS back in May of 2010. It was a a fairly straight port of the DS version, so no added bells and whistles, but remained a strong game simply because the source material was so good. Owners of this original iOS version will be able to update their games to the new HD versions when they go live. Newcomers will be able to download the first two chapters of Ace Attorney 123HD for free, with additional episodes available as in-app purchases. The screens above show just how lovely the redrawn artwork looks compared to the game that's currently on the App Store. You can see even more lovely screens via the original story link below. Ace Attorney 123HD is said to be coming "shortly" and we'll let you know just as soon as there are any new details regarding pricing, available chapters, iPad support, or a firm date of release. iTunes Link: 1.1 Update! 12/23/2011 Capcom releases the Blue Bomber onto the iOS scene with Mega Man X, by IntoMobile

If you’ve been keeping tabs on Capcom’s mobile offerings, you’ll know they haven’t released many Mega Man titles. The only Mega Man game that has made it to the App Store was Mega Man II, and it was a ho-hum offering at best. Now, Capcom has released another Mega Man title onto the iOS platform, and this time, it’s arguably one of the greatest Mega Man titles for the 16-bit era, Mega Man X. Mega Man X for iPhone stars X, who happens to be the final creation of Dr. Light, as he fights a number of reploid robots to stop Sigma from destroying the human race. The game features graphics that have been optimized for the Retina Display, includes difficulty options, online rankings, and more. You’ll also be able to play the game in its regular format or full screen mode and you’ll also be able to activate a number of iOS-only cheats such as auto-fire, auto-charge, and auto-ladder latch-on, which could be very useful for those of you who never learned how to climb a ladder before. Capcom has also included 80 challenges that can be achieved during the game’s Story Mode. Mega Man X is currently available for $4.99 on the App Store and should definitely be checked out if you’re a fan of the Mega Man series. Let’s just hope Capcom decides to deliver more Mega Man goodness onto mobile platforms. *cough* Mega Man 9 *cough* Mega Man X ($4.99) – [iTunes Link] Daniel is a Jersey boy, born and raised. 12/09/2011 Revamped 'Mega Man X' Coming to iOS in Japan This Month, by Touch Arcade

Here's some news I wasn't expecting. Andriasang.com is reporting that Capcom is readying an enhanced version of Mega Man X, the beloved Super Nintendo classic starring everyone's favorite blue hero, for release on iOS sometime this month. The only catch with that is the game is only confirmed for release in Japan, but it's not a big stretch to imagine that Capcom would be bringing the game to other territories as well. In fact, I'll eat my blue helmet if we don't get Mega Man X in the US App Store at some point. As Andriasang points out, Famitsu.com has the first shots of Mega Man X on iOS, known as Rockman X in Japan. According to the blurb at Famitsu, this version of Mega Man X was actually previously released for feature phones, and is being ported to iOS with virtual touch screen controls and Game Center integration. As you can see by these shots, the graphics are quite different from the SNES classic, and while I'm usually a purist when it comes to things like this, I actually think it looks damn good. You would think that one of my favorite games from one of my all time favorite franchises coming to my mobile gaming platform of choice would be blowing my socks through the roof, and it is somewhat, but there's just one problem: Capcom has tried Mega Man on iOS before with Mega Man II [$2.99/Lite] and – how do I put this delicately? – it was a total disaster. Mega Man II is one of the most difficult platforming games ever, requiring pinpoint accuracy with jumping and combat. The subpar virtual controls in the iOS version just didn't cut the mustard, though to Capcom's credit the game was updated frequently and the experience did improve over time, it just was never ideal. Another issue with the Mega Man II release was that the iOS version was based off of a feature phone version of the game, and came with some concessions due to this. The jumping was floaty and weird, levels and enemy placement was reworked, and in general it just didn't "feel" like the Mega Man II we know and love. Again, to Capcom's credit they did update the game to rectify most of those issues with a Classic Mode, but it still ended up feeling pretty different than the original. Being that Mega Man Read More

10/16/2011 Android App Tablet Review: Herman the Hermit - Android app review - Andrew Koziara | Appolicious ™ Android App Directory, by Android Apps - Daily video reviews by AndroidApps.com

Herman the Hermit is a fun and kooky endless game in which you jump, teleport, and rocket your way to saving nature. Similar to other endless survival titles like Doodle Jump, this is a great casual title to help you pass the time while you wait in line at the bank. There are plenty of achievements to go for and the game has a lot of replay value, even if it is extremely simple. The graphics and sound design are great, and set the tone for random hilarity and fun. The controls can be a little awkward sometimes, and the game is extremely repetitive. It's a little bit too easy to survive for long periods of time, which leads to eventual boredom. Overall, the game is still quite fun though, and a solid download. Herman the Hermit brings the kooky to your Android Tablet. Read More

08/24/2011 'The Secret of Chateau de Moreau' Review – An Engaging "Who Dun It?", by Touch Arcade

The Secret of Chateau de Moreau [$4.99 / Lite] by 4:33 Creative Lab is an entertaining adventure game, which is quite similar to Phoenix Wright [$4.99] / Review], which has heaps of fans here on TouchArcade. Both of these games are interactive story-telling adventures, where you make decisions which determine the outcome. If you love Phoenix Wright, or murder mysteries, you'll probably enjoy this game as much as we do. You play as Antoine, the step-son of the wealthy Count Moreau, who has died under suspicious circumstances and now you're the main suspect. Antoine must investigate the crime, solving puzzles along the way, to prove his own innocence. The story is captivating, almost like reading a book, except you're an active participant in the drama. This is a "who dun it?" murder mystery, with back-story and a decent cast of suspects. I've met 14 characters so far, including family members, a maid, a nanny, an engineer, a house guest...and yes, there's a butler.  Maybe he did it? Maybe he didn't? Perhaps I did it? That's what makes this game so much fun. There's three different types of gameplay. Sometimes you walk your character around a floor-map of the Chateau, searching rooms for objects, using objects or presenting them to people. During your investigations you'll uncover topics of interest, which are recorded as clues. Once a clue is revealed, you can question the various characters about it and use objects to resolve that clue. The second type of play is when you present your evidence, at the appropriate times, to solve the mystery. It's this part of the game which is most like Phoenix Wright. If you don't respond to the situation correctly, you might fail to prove your innocence. You're given five candles (lives), which extinguish each time you make a mistake. There's 40 alternate endings, which are presented in this game like achievements. So, in addition to completing the story, you can also try to reveal the other 39 endings. The third type of gameplay involves puzzles to solve, such as opening an object, entering a code, or putting things in the right position. The developers advise there are over 100 puzzles, so I'll take their word on that. If you haven't seen Phoenix Wright you may be unfamiliar with how this story is presented. Basically, static images of locations and characters are presented in cartoon format, sometimes with slight Read More

08/22/2011 Android Game Review: Herman the Hermit | Android Central, by Android Central | Android Central

Herman the Hermit is a strange guy. He lives up on a mountain, being all hermity, honing his mind and body for jumping from platform to platform. He's also totally insane. Plus, he can't ever actually die. This is the premise of Herman the Hermit. The first time you open the game up, you're shown a tutorial on how to leap to-and-fro. You "slice" at an angle to plan your jump, and then Herman goes for it. You'll notice my slicing is pretty off the first time, but I definitely got better the more I played the game. Your objective is to either jump over platforms to keep your time meter filled or pick up the clock power-ups to refill your time meter. The more time you have in your meter, the longer your game. You accumulate points for stringing together many leaps without falling as well as having your distance tracked. In all, you're shooting both a high score and a far distance. Fortunately, if you fall or miss a platform, Herman simply uses his staff like a helicopter propeller and floats himself right back to the bottom of the screen, where you're free to slice your way back onto the platforms. There's also a number of interesting power-ups, like a lightning bolt, a jet pack, and a rocket. Any one of these nets you a nice combo, as it hits every platform in front of you for a while, stringing together a nice combo. All of them are pretty self-explanatory, too. Grab the bolt and turn into a lightning bolt. Put on the pack and fly around, Rocketeer-style. And the big rocket? Let's just say it reminds me of Dr. Strangelove. The graphics are really stellar and gameplay is smooth. I wouldn't expect anything less from a studio like Capcom, but the polish really shines through. Gameplay can get repetitive and I'm not sure it's necessarily skill-based so much as just flicking your finger around, but it's still good for killing time. Herman the Hermit is 99 cents in the Market, if you're interested. Download links are after the break. Read More

08/02/2011 Android App Video Review: Herman the Hermit - Android app article - Andrew Koziara | Appolicious ™ Android App Directory, by Android Apps - Daily video reviews by AndroidApps.com

Herman the Hermit is a kooky game brought to us by Visual Dreams, apparently in affiliation with Capcom Mobile. This does not seem like the kind of game that Capcom would put out, and I can't find this game anywhere on their website, but whatever. This is another older game that I never reviewed, so here we go again. This is one of those endless games, testing how far you can go in each session, much like Doodle Jump. This one, however, takes place on a sides scrolling world with tons of floating platforms. Your goal, as Herman, is to jump from platform to platform, building up your streak counter and total distance until you run out of time. It's possible, and very easy, to replenish your time in this game. To do so, you simply have to jump past platforms, skipping them. They still get counted, and your time gets replenished, but you have to make sure you are actually above them, or they won't count. You can also replenish them by jump backwards rather than forwards, as long as you save yourself and continue on. The game tells you it controls by swiping, but that's a lie. You only have to tap in the direction you want to jump. The levels are littered with random pickups. Some are power-ups that help you progress, some are trophies, and some are simple time extensions. The transportation power ups that help you progress are all pretty cool with great effects, especially the lighting and teleport ones. Though, some will continue adding to your streak counter, and others will just skip past all the platforms. If a power-up is sitting on a platform that you skip over, you'll still pick it up anyway. This game is easy, and I mean really easy. You can fall as many times as you want as long as you don't run out of time, which is really hard to do. It takes a while to get used to the jumping arcs, but once you do, it's smooth sailing. Especially with all the power ups. The game just doesn't change up enough, and it get's repetitive and stale very quickly. Though, the base of the game is still really fun. The production quality is pretty high. The art and animations are great, and the game has a good sense of humor. Though, you'll immediately notice that the user Read More

07/28/2011 Herman the Hermit Android App Review |, by /-445/blog

The Herman the Hermit Android App by Capcom Mobile is a side scroller game where the object is to get as far as you can while getting the highest score possible. The back story to this game is that Herman is a crazy old hermit who lives high in the Himalayan Mountains who has had years of meditation and training. As a result, Herman has developed Ninja-like skills and the mindset of a mad man. The controls are based on swipes, so to move Herman from platform to platform simply make a swipe gesture to the platform that you want Herman to jump and land on. Along the way you will find quite a few different power ups which you can use to help get Herman father and gain more points. Overall, this side scroller has unique controls and the graphics are very well done. The gameplay is a bit different from the traditional side scroller game due to the controls which makes it pretty fun to play. At the time of this review the Herman the Hermit Android App is $1.99. Thumbs Up. Popularity: 2% [?] Read More
