+ Universal App $2.99 Our Review By Oliver Haslam on December 23rd, 2011 Rating: :: CONSUMING Consume is your one stop shop for all your accounts and clubs, be they phone, broadband, shopping cards or gaming. Monitor everything with ease, from just one app. Developer: Price: $2.99 Version Reviewed: 2.0 Device Reviewed On: iPhone 4S & iPad 2 iPhone Integration Rating: User Interface Rating: Re-use Value Rating: Overall Rating: With so many accounts these days, be they online gaming accounts, mobile telephone contract accounts or even simple shipping accounts, just keeping track of them all can be a real pain. Even just keeping up to date with call allowance usage can get more complicated than it ought to be depending on who users are tied to. What folks really need is one app to rule them all. One app that will tell them how many minutes they have left while keeping an eye on that expensive new MacBook Pro that is winging its way across half the planet. That app is Consume. Consume’s strength comes from the sheer number of accounts that it can keep a watchful eye on, and users need not be in the United States to take advantage of it. Over 250 providers spanning 18 countries are catered for in Consume, meaning that it’s highly likely most people’s tastes will be looked after. Possibly the biggest change to arrive in this 2.0 release is the addition of an iPad version of the app, giving users a much bigger screen to work with and giving Bjango more room to maneuver. The increased screen real estate means users of Consume are in for a treat. Users of both the iPhone and iPad version of the app can keep everything in sync, too, thanks to the iCloud support that is also built right into Consume 2.0. I found using Consume to be an absolute pleasure, especially on the iPad thanks to that wonderful interface. Being able to delete a folder of bookmarks that previously housed links to mobile phone account websites and points cards in favor of a well designed iOS app is one of life’s little comforts, a comfort that is well worth the asking price. Buttons do what I would expect them to do, and once everything is set up, using the app is as easy as it gets. I also felt that the comprehensive list of suppliers and Read More
It’s irritating having to head to different websites for your cellphone usage, broadband usage, and to check for that package of Gummi Bears you ordered from Germany. Consume 1.x helped ease this pain on my iPhone by allowing me to track usage details and shipments. But now Consume 2.0 is out and it’s smexier and infinitely more universal than before, meaning that it now runs on both the iPhone and iPad. I only started using the new version today so my stats and accounts are completely uninteresting, but I am digging the automatic iCloud sync. All I had to do was set up my Rogers account on my iPhone and leave it up to iCloud to do the same on my iPad. If you enjoy consumption or the number two, you can check out Consume 2.0 for $2.99 on the App Store. Read More
MEGA UPDATE: Our new iCade list is available right here at this link. Go check it out! Turns out that assembling an iCade takes less time than finding good games for it. As I put the finishing touches on the monstrosity, I finally began thinking about what I would do with it once it was together. I had no clue. This is probably why my girlfriend hates me so much, but I suppose that’s neither here nor there. If you’re familiar with our message board, then finding games that support the device is as simple as throwing in a search term. Sadly, the list our community is putting together isn’t showing up in a simple Google search. With this lone write-up, I’m hoping to kill two birds: I want to give everyone a solid starting point with their new machines, while also pointing out that our dudes in the trenches are doing a great job listing and evaluating the titles. So, yeah, you’ve got an iCade and need some games. Here’s a handy list of a few, drawn from our iCade support thread. iPhone Only Just real quick, I want to spotlight Velocispider, Match Panic, and Super Mega Worm -- all three of these games are greatly enhanced by the joystick and buttons that the iCade provides. Super Mega Worm in particular feels much more visceral, precise, and becomes much more entertaining as a result. Seriously, I’ve spent more hours with it today than I have since its original release in 2010. Compared to the amount of games on the App Store, the game release line-up is still pretty thin, as you’ve probably observed from the above list. Our collective brains sincerely hope more studios get into the iCade and support it where it makes sense, as it really does add a previously unexplored layer of play in new and especially or older titles. Fingers crossed for a The Blocks Cometh [$.99] update. You know it makes sense, Halfbot! UPDATE: Added several new games, including titles from Llamasoft and Orange Pixel. iPad Only App $1.99 Our Review By Jennifer Allen on June 8th, 2011 Rating: :: EXHILARATING Classic top down racing with a techno punk vibe Developer: Price: $2.99 Version Reviewed: 1.0.1 Device Reviewed On: iPad 2 Graphics / Sound Rating: Game Controls Rating: Gameplay Rating: Replay Value Rating: Overall Rating: Racing games frequently fall into one of two camps – the sim and the arcade racer. Sideways Racing offers a very important clue in its name, providing players with the kind of racing action that’s more to do with sliding round corners quickly than carefully manoeuvring each track. Sideways Racing immediately harks back to the glory days of Micro Machines. It’s not quite as indepth but what is there provides a great experience. Besides the basic training mode, there are 3 modes to get to grips with. The meat of the game comes in the form of the League mode offering 3 different areas to race in, comprising of 9 different tracks in all. It’s perhaps not as plentiful as some would like, not taking a huge amount of time to complete, however there is always the option of bumping up the difficulty level which provides a stronger challenge. Time Trial does exactly what the name suggests while Knockout is a form of Last Man Standng with cars competing to be the last one on the track by being first consistently. Nitros and other bonuses are available to pick up as the player races around to boost the excitement as well as the speed involved. During some tracks when there are up to 10 cars racing at any one time, these power ups can really make the difference. There’s also the added problem of the car needing repairing if it clashes with too many opponents or walls. On the plus side, this works in the player’s favor as it’s possible to destroy their opponent in a similar way. Controls are pretty responsive and accurate. On the left of the screen lies the accelerator and reverse buttons while the right controls direction. It’s possible to use either touch or swipe based controls, with touch controls being the most effective. It’s a shame that there aren’t any accelerometer based controls but the touch ones do the job well ensuring the game is rarely frustrating. The only frustration actually stems from the lack of a restart button during a race. If the player messes Read More
By Rene Ritchie, Monday, May 23, 2011 | Bjango’s new racing game for iPad, Sideways, is now available in the App Store. Harkening back to the top-view racers of classic arcades, it keeps the same great emphasis on gameplay but puts the pedal to the metal on gorgeous graphics, immersive sound, and multi-touch iPad controls. The controls in Sideways, both tap and swipe versions, can take a lap or two — or in my case race or two — to get used to but after that, every drift, dodge, and drive, never mind corner, collision, and crash you get into is loads of fun. I had the pleasure of beta testing Sideways for the last couple of weeks, and while I’m so bad at racing games I sometimes wonder how I’m allowed to drive a real car, I enjoyed it thoroughly. Bjango’s Marc Edwards was kind enough to talk to us about Sideways on the iPad Live podcast last night, which is already available via iTunes and will be up here on the site later today. Go grab the game, then go listen to us talk about it! UPDATE: Bjango was kind enough to give us some promo codes to give away. Want Sideways for free? Just head on over to Twitter and re-tweet this: Want a Sideways promo code? Follow @Bjango @TiPb and RT to enter! http://t.co/0003YUF We’ll pick a bunch of you tomorrow and DM you codes. Sep 21st 2010 at 8:00AM Companion app for star walk? I would definitely use this as one. Am I wrong, or are the phase names wrong? Don't the moon phases (from waxing to full to waning to new) move from right to left (not left to right) when viewed from earth? Or am I standing on my head again...? Thanks Mike. We're really happy to be the TUAW Daily App. @Catatonic I believe we are showing the correct images. Don't forget to account for hemisphere. Hemisphere can be set in Phases, so it'll match the moon as seen in your location. (The difference in hemisphere is noted in that Wiki article Robert linked to.) (I'm part of the Bjango team.) Actually, yes, this IS a good app for witches. ...but more likely the Wiccan variety than the "Satanic blood alter picnicking tea-party" ones. :) I actually have iEphemeris lite, which I think is as good or better, though; it gives realtime data as it occurs (continually updating). I rather like MoonPhase (http://tinyurl.com/yzfme3j); it gives me a Werewolf warning. Don't downplay the importance of moon/sun apps. As a photographer, my Moon app is invaluable for planning moonrise shots! This will be handy for witches â I mean, Tea Party representatives. LOL. Now here’s a case where fast app switching is welcome, but simply not very useful for me. That’s because my cable and iPhone accounts on Rogers take a good 20-30 seconds for Consume to check even on wi-fi, so the extra 2-3 seconds of loading time I save are simply nullified by the pathetically long wait time (Rogers’ fault, I’m almost certain). The rest of the update pertains to various provider additions and updates, which you can read in larger print by clicking on the screenshot above. I do dig this newer non-pie (or is it cake?) icon, though! Read More

Posted 04/29/2010 at 1:56pm | by Ray Aguilera With 185,000 apps and counting, the App Store is a vast warehouse of digital goodies for your iPhone (and now iPad too). But like most mega-marts, the sheer size of it all makes the good stuff harder to find. We’ve scoured the Store, and found the best apps to help you use your iPhone to it’s fullest potential. Whether it’s games you seek, or productivity tools, we’ve got you covered. As it turns out, there really is an app for that, no matter what that is. The iPhone and iPod touch brought back fun to videogaming, with developers focussing on innovation, affordability, and novelty. Touchscreen and accelerometer controls also force designers to think different, resulting in games that are a glorious collision of classic and cutting-edge gameplay and technology. --Craig Grannell Steph Thirion · $2.99 Eliss is the perfect game for the iPhone’s touch screen. The concept is simple--tear apart and combine planets and drop them into like-colored/sized “squeesars.” A successful drop sees a planet vanish in a cloud of stardust, which can be mopped up to replenish energy lost during collisions of differently colored planets. Requiring unique tactics for each level, Eliss is tough but rewarding, and has beautiful retro visuals and audio. It might look old-school, but Eliss is a modern multitouch creation. Arthur Ham · $0.99 We’ve no idea what the little guy in Run! is sprinting toward, but we hope it’s a great prize, because along the way he has to dodge or destroy numerous foes (zombies, walls, lethal giant saws) with the help of only his cunning and a giant bazooka. The superficially similar Canabalt may have more style, but Run! beats it on price, quirkiness, fun, variety, and the ability to flying-kick deadly leaping sharks in the head. Yeah, you read that right. You know you've always wanted to kick a shark. Drömsynt · $0.99 Imagine the mutant love child of Breakout, Pong, and a simplified Super Mario Bros. (or Pac-Land, if you’re old enough!) and you’ve got Squareball. Your ball constantly bounces and you swipe levels left and right, trying to collect green blocks and avoid hazards like holes and red blocks. It sounds simple, but the level design is devious, ensuring the game is both insanely frustrating and murderously addictive. Mini time-attack challenges add extra value. Be prepared to die... a lot.
