Sometimes a wiseacre editor (we have a few) suggests we do a Five Apps post for a particularly offbeat area of interest. And sometimes we actually start brainstorming these. Today, we'll look at at restroom apps: after all, you can't spell iPhone without "I P." Here are 5 apps to help accommodate your timely needs (all prices are USD). (Free) Yes, all those slashes are part of the official name. This app, as well as Have2P (also free) helps you locate the nearest public bathroom, which is handy for older handsets without Siri. If you have a 4S, you can just tell Siri, "I have to urinate" and let her search for public toilets using Apple's database (as long as you don't mind explaining your situation to your phone in public). ($0.99) For those of you who use your potty breaks to play games, catch up with Twitter, or otherwise surf, Toilet Time Pro monitors the elapsed bathroom time and provide alarms to remind you how long you've spent in there. A special "Extension Time" feature allows you to "[set up] extension times to keep notifying you about your toilet time allow you extend your toilet time." Clearly, a GTD perk. Plus, the name gave us a chuckle. Toilet Time Pro suggests there's a non-professional version. Toilet Time Amateur? We won't be downloading that one. ($0.99) If you have ever wished to transform your commode into an entertainment device (frankly, who hasn't)? If so, Talking Toilet provides exactly that frisson of personality you're looking for. According to its marketing text, the talking toilet "provides hours of entertainment with his hilarious sayings. Whether you're on the potty or not, he's sure to help pass the time while you pass the....well you know." Yes. We know. And we remind you that you chose to keep reading this post. Moving on... Since most loo visits are short, entertainment options must likewise adapt. In the grand tradition of "toilet reading," Toilet Tickles provides quick jokes presented on a styled toilet paper roll courtesy of Italian Comedian Alessandro Paci. This app presumably allows you to go, read, laugh and leave, all in a timely manner. Drunk Sniper ($1.99, on sale for $0.99) Finally we bring you Drunk Sniper. It lets men practice their aim and women try to "walk in mens' shoes" at various levels of virtual inebriation. Even if you'll never be able to write Read More
Here’s one of those location-based apps everyone needs. It’s called Toilet Finder and as you can guess from its name, it will help you find a restroom nearby. There are more than 76,000 toilets from around the world in the database, though most of them are in France, England, Germany, UK, US and Canada. At the moment 400,000 users are relying on the app to… well, you know what they need it for. The list of toilets is far from final, it keeps growing as Toilet Finder users can submit new places they find on their way. As a matter of fact, it is said that around 400 new places are included every week. Every toilet in the database can be rated and for some of them there are photos included. Moreover, before “visiting the place,” you’ll know whether it’s a free or paid toilet and whether it provides access for disabled. Toilet Finder is a free app and it’s available for the iPhone and Android. Hopefully, the company behind the project will also release it masterpiece for other platforms, feature phones included. After all, it’s not just the high-end smartphone users that need to know where’s a nearby toilet, right? Restroom/bathroom/toilet finder (FREE) [iTunes link] Dusan has been using smartphones since their introduction and is now following the latest trends in the industry. The "convergence" is what he's most excited about, and writing about it is the next logical thing to do. He thinks that using a smartphone is what everyone who cares about their time should do. In addition to his interests in mobile phones, Dusan also loves to experiment with the latest web and mobile 2.0 services. The idea of accessing and managing your information from any device no matter where you are simply amazes him. Whether it's an online to-do list, note taking service or a video sharing social network, he's there to try it out. He admits though, he's still searching for the ultimate web-based organizational tool, which "sings" perfectly with the mobile PIM application. Dusan used to run SymbianWatch.com which later became part of IntoMobile. He lives in Serbia, South-East Europe, from where he edits the site on a daily basis. Read More

11.30.09 App Score: 8/10 Rocket Bird by Be Tomorrow is a simple, silly, yet whimsical game that features a bird, a rocket, and many country farm obstacles. The app presents a clear, simple objective – fly as far as you can. For a limited time (reportedly only through today 11/30) Rocket Bird is available for free in the App Store. If you get a chance to grab it up, it’s quite a steal. Rocket Bird is really a bird with a rocket strapped to his back blasting across a country landscape. Players aid him in his flight by controlling his left and right motions with a tilt of the iPhone or iPod touch. It really couldn’t be a simpler game and the concept, combined with ease of control, makes Rocket Bird a terrific little casual game enhanced by colorful animation. Taking full advantage of the accelerometer feature, Rocket Bird was designed to be accurately responsive. With three levels of difficulty, players can challenge themselves to greater distances and more complicated flights. The overall objective is to travel the greatest distance possible before crashing Rocket Bird into one of the many obstacles, such as barns, split rail fences, cows, and trees. Keep an eye on his rocket power, displayed on the right and pick up stars for added rocket fuel. Try to beat your personal best or compare your distance with that of other players via the global leader board. Rocket Bird hits the mark of a casual, pick up and play game in every aspect – it’s easy to learn, quick and fun to play, and has a simple objective. Of course the colorful animation and accompanying in-flight tune are great additions. For free, Rocket Bird is a hidden gem. Even once it again becomes a paid app, it will remain a great little casual game for players of all ages. Read More

It’s become a tradition to have “Door-Buster” sales to get people out and shop on this day that retailers traditionally first turn a profit for the year. Well, the app store is no different. App developers big and small are putting their apps on sale for the holiday weekend. We’ll try to update this a few times over the holiday weekend, it’s a good way to escape the in-laws. Don’t forget to come back on Friday as that’s when a bunch of the following go on sale. A whole bunch of ifs, ands, or buts. These apps are the sale items that we have been notified about or have found. Some of these items may not be on sale yet, but we’ve been told they are going to be on sale. The prices do change at any time and do change quickly – developers are tricky that way. Some are on sale for the weekend, others for only Black Friday. If the app you want isn’t showing up as on sale, I’d check back Friday. Because prices change so quickly, we can’t always update things to show the correct prices below. We like to take a break and eat pumpkin pie too you know. Click through to the App Store to see the current up-to-the-second prices. And if you see something you like, at a price you like, grab it immediately as it may not stay on sale as long as you would hope. It’s quite possible that we missed a few sale apps – I blame the tryptophan. So, head on over to our iPhone App Price Drops for the constantly updating full list of app price drops. Also, if you are just interested in apps that Read More
Read More
