Seasonality Go

| $9.99 | Gaucho Software, LLC.
The number of weather apps for the iPad just keeps growing.  These include free ones (Weather Bug, for example) to ones costing a few bucks (Weather Radar HD).  The latest, Seasonality Go by Gauch Software, is the first app that allows for heavy user customization, which might be a top selling point for some buyers. Priced at $9.99, Seasonality Go is being marketed as a “premiere weather application,” although that may have more to do with its steep price-tag than for its features. Quite simply, the app has the tried-and-true weather features that you would expect from such an app such as current conditions, forecasting and map reading, but it is what you decide to do with those features that will determine whether the app is worth the premium cost. For example, the default screen includes a map, current temperature reading plus a look at past, current and future temperatures and precipitation. Finally, it includes a bar that shows upcoming day and nighttime temperatures for the next few days along with icons showing whether it will be sunny, rainy or the like.  If you have a iPad 3G, the app will also show your current latitude/longitude position as well as your current elevation. Each feature is presented in a crisp, detailed and user-friendly format that I enjoy, and doesn’t require the user to go from screen-to-screen like some other weather apps.  Also, each feature can be easily swiped with your finger to show data further into the future, which as a concept is very cool.  However, on this, I could not get data to show beyond the next 24-hours, which could be a bug. Once you get comfortable with the default data screen, you can add others, including ones called “Just the Graphs”, “Map”, “Travel” and “Marine.” Each one of these screens Read More

Doodle Jump

| $0.99 | Lima Sky
In a time before birds were mad at pigs, there was Doodle Jump. It dominated the App Store and it was hard to find an iPhone user that didn’t have it. With that kind of popularity, many are wondering why two months after the iPad launch, there is no version for that device. We wondered if there was an iPad version planned, and found out that apparently there is. The New York Times caught up the developers, Igor and Marko Pusenjak, on the iPad’s launch day. They had purchased an iPad and announced they were going straight home to start working on porting their Doodle Jump over to the iPad. Yet, over two and a half months later, there is still no iPad version in the App Store. Business Insider recently caught up with one of the developers to find out why. When asked, he had this to say: We are working on the iPad version of Doodle Jump which will be specially created for the iPad rather than simply rescaled. In some way, we are practically building a whole new game for the iPad, and that takes time. This is good news, as we can look forward to seeing all new enhanced gameplay, and not just updated graphics like many of the early iPad apps. We can only assume that with the quality of work that went into the original iPhone version, an all new iPad version will be amazing. When will it come out? Those familiar with Doodle Jump know that one of the things that made it popular was the frequent updates. With the speed an amount of work we saw on the iPhone app, we can only assume that they can have an iPad version done any time soon right? Unfortunately, the outlook is not so optimistic. When we Read More

On the go blogging is about to get a little clearer and quicker thanks to the recent update to the WordPress app, which now sports retina display optimization, fast app switching, and few other handy new features. Besides the addition of retina display optimization and fast app switching, WordPress v2.5 also contains a new “add blog” feature that allows you to add all of your WordPress.com blogs in a single step, better handling of drafts in progress when quitting the app, and a bunch of performance enhancements, UI improvements, and bug fixes. Durak

| $0.99 | Lost Token Software LLC
AppAdvice has once again teamed up with Lost Token Software in order to offer you a chance to win one of nine (9) promo codes for Durak ($4.99). Durak for the iPhone and iPod touch supports two to four players and uses a deck of thirty-six cards. Each player is dealt six cards to begin, and the objective is to get rid of all of those cards before everyone else does, because the last person with cards left in their hand loses. The game is turn-based, where each player has a chance to attack and defend. To attack, you simply place a card face up on the table and the defender must place a card on top of that which exceeds its numerical value, or they can use a trump card. A trump card is actually a predetermined suit that trumps all other cards. If the defender is unable to defend, they must take all of the cards into their hand. If the defender is able to defend, the cards on the table simply go into the graveyard. This goes on until the deck is gone. Play against up to three AI opponents in single player mode on easy, normal or hard difficulty. You can host or join a local multiplayer game via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, or an Internet game using a Wi-Fi connection or even over 3G. Additional features include Facebook connect, in game chat system, push notifications, and leaderboards. I feel the icing on the cake is being able to create your own custom look for the card deck by being able to choose a photo from your iPhone or iPod touch’s photo library. To have a chance at winning one of five Durak promo codes, simply hit that green retweet button near the bottom of this page or Read More

Angry Birds

| $0.99 | Clickgamer.com
When the story came out saying that Microsoft may be offering cash to tempt popular iPhone app developers and publishers to create for their platform, it left us wondering who would take the offer. Thanks to the publisher of Angry Birds, we finally have some insight into how they will respond. The San Francisco Chronicle recently interviewed Joe Wee, the director of mobile application publisher Chillingo. Chillingo has had six games which have reached #1 in the App Store. One of those titles, Angry Birds, has sold over 4 million copies. According to Joe Wee, he gets calls on a daily basis from both Microsoft and Google but so far he has turned them down. Why? He’s ignoring their requests for now because Apple iOS is the only “commercially viable” mobile platform for him. Chillingo is obviously having great success by targeting a low price and high volume market. With iOS they are looking at a potential customer base of 100M by 2011. With the costs related to porting the app over likely being high, publishers like Wee have to look at how many potential sales they could have on a second device. With the Android market share being significantly smaller than iOS, and Windows Phone 7 not even released, it’s easy to see why a publisher focused on volume sales wouldn’t be very interested. This means that if Microsoft and Google were offering cash incentives to lure developers and publishers, it would likely have to be at least enough to cover the development and support costs. While not everyone agrees with Wee, this news is not good for Microsoft and Google in the near term. It also shows how much momentum the iOS platform carries with the developer community. Read More

BATTLE BEARS

| $0.99 | SkyVu Pictures
It took a little longer than we initially anticipated, but Battle Bears -1 has finally been submitted to Apple for approval and should be hitting the App Store sometime next week.  To hold you over until then, we have some brand new screenshots and a gameplay trailer to show off.  But first, a few new details regarding the title. Battle Bears -1 is actually being called a double prequel, as its story takes place a full two games before the original Battle Bears.  The game is an entirely third-person affair, allowing you to explore the environments and blast colorful teddy bears via two on-screen joysticks. For $.99 you will get Oliver’s story campaign, survival modes, and boss trials.  Riggs’ story campaign will be available as a $.99 in-app purchase and will include new levels, cut scenes, and a single new boss.  Both campaigns will be updated with new weapons and mid-bosses.  Melee weapons, new character campaigns, local multiplayer co-op, and much more will be added via future updates as well. Battle Bears -1 was originally intended to be an iPhone- and iPod touch-only title, but the team recently decided to bring it to the iPad as well.  You won’t have to pay for it twice, however, as SkyVu Pictures has full intentions of making it a universal app. Brand new screenshots and the official gameplay trailer for Battle Bears -1 can be viewed below.
