Zombie Feast

| $0.99 | American Eagle Co Inc Apps
We humans have lost the greatest battle to ever face the Earth. The zombies have, in fact, conquered humanity. With our penchant for tasting yummy and our inability to work together without egos clashing, I can’t say I’m really all that surprised. Zombie Feast focuses on the difficult trials of living in a zombie-run world. If working for a fast food joint was bad before, at least employees didn’t have to worry about being eaten in the event of a mistake. That small comfort has been removed in this new world we find ourselves in. Your new duties as a second-rate species. Zombie Feast is a universal app that features three different locations for your food services. You can serve in either a cafeteria, a pizzeria, or an alley. You can also choose between the easy and hard play modes. I’m assuming this is the difference between the lunch rush and the dunner rush at human food establishments. I’ve never worked in fast food, so I’m not sure. The zombies and strange talking rats request three food items to eat at a time. Once you drag all the food onto the serving area, you have to drag the food to the zombie. I had just been tapping on the food, and it told me that I lost. I was frustrated until my fellow test subject figured it out without any problems. So, you have to drag the food to the proper zombie. The new food fare. Another detail that I checked out was whether order was important. I’m referring to whether or not you need to get all the food in the order it’s listed on the screen, or if it matters which zombie you serve first. The food didn’t seem to be an issue. Which zombie you served first did Read More

Kissing Contest

| FREE | App Camelot
To begin, I would like to point out that this game is best played without smashing actual lips onto the screen. While I’ve seen my fair share of kissing contest apps in the App Store that utilize this strategy, this Kissing Contest app does not. Not only does it make for easier gameplay to use your fingers, it’s probably more hygienic as well. Kissing Contest isn’t a game of kissing as much as it is a game of aim and judgement. Look at all the pretty lips. The point of the game is to tap the red lips with great dental hygiene as they grow larger on your screen. The pink lips that seem as if they haven’t seen a toothbrush in five years are best avoided. It’s basically instinct to not touch something that looks sick or dirty. In this case, instinct proves useful. Touching the unhealthy mouth will result in a deduction of points. Since Kissing Contest isn’t scored like a golf game, it’s best to just avoid losing points. The longer you hold your touch on the red lips, the more points you gain. There’s more than one set of lips that comes at you at a time. You could just touch one pair for all 50 points, but if you miss six other sets of lips, then you didn’t really do yourself any favors. The best strategy I found was to have my fingers contort in ridiculous ways in order to get as many pairs of lips for as long as I could. This strategy lasted as long as my finger joints could stand it. Since I have no flexibility in my fingers, it wasn’t for very long. I’m guessing that gymnasts and guitar players will probably fare better than I did. The game comes with three Read More

Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies

| $6.99 | Activision Publishing, Inc.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies ($6.99) has just been updated, adding new weapons, in-app purchases and the ability to save and load game progress. Fans of the application will be pleased to hear that two new weapons – the Ray Gun and Monkey Bombs – are now at their disposal: the iconic handgun allows players to kill zombies in one shot (in earlier rounds), while Call of Duty fans will also be very pleased to see Monkey Bombs make an appearance in the iOS app. Players can also purchase points from within the app, with prices starting as low as $0.99 but reaching as high as $49.99. These in-app purchases allow fans to take a shortcut when it comes to gaining experience within the application. Furthermore, support for game saves and loads is also a great (and much-needed) feature. Read More

Vocal - Vocally control your computer

| $1.99 | Matthew Roberts
We at AppAdvice really do love iOS 5. In fact, we love how iOS features are being implemented into the Mac OS as well. One of the things I personally can’t wait to see is iMessage available on the Mac. We also love our iPhone 4S handsets and, of course, that snarky succubus that is Siri. Anything that helps us merge our Mac lives and our iLives together is a definite plus. Enter: Vocal. Vocal allows you to use your voice to dictate text and even give your Mac commands. Connect to your computer to control any application, send multiple commands, and even dictate long documents of text — all using your voice. For this to work, you just need an iPhone 4S, — if you want to dictate by voice, you can always type in commands instead if necessary — an internet connection, and the free Mac software. There. You’re good to go. I’m excited to get my hands on this and give it a test drive, so that I can let you guys know how it is. Read More

TapShot

| $0.99 | Two Teeth Technologies
First, tap Customize Actions to see what I mean. You decide whether you want a single tap to Take a Photo, Burst 3, Burst 5, Burst 10, Continuous Burst, Zoom In, Zoom Out, Lock/Unlock Focus, Lock/Unlock Exposure, Lock/Unlock WB, Lock/Unlock All, Reset locks/zoom, Toggle light, Set foc/exp point, Toggle camera, Camera Roll, Exp Bracketing x6, or Disabled. And that’s just ONE gesture, Single Tap. You also get to choose which of the above actions Double Tap, Triple Tap, Hold Tap, Swipe Left, Swipe Right, Swipe Up, Swipe Down, Multi-Touch, and Face Detect will control. Now tap Customize Interface to decide how you want your camera to look. Do you like all your features laid out right on the screen or do you prefer a minimalist approach? Toggle your Tap Hints, Swipe Hints, Gridlines, Flashlight Button, Auto Flash Button, Photo Album, and Capture Button on or off for just the look you want. This is an extremely feature-rich camera replacement app for people who just don’t feel that the native camera is sufficient. I wouldn’t call it an all-in-one camera, because it doesn’t offer editing. This is strictly for taking photos. One thing I don’t love is that even with all the icons/hints toggled off, the interface still displays a frame which narrows your point of view. Personally, I like to see the entire screen while I’m shooting, but that’s not necessarily important to everyone. TapShot is what I’d call a niche app. It’s a worthwhile purchase for people who want features like burst, zoom, focus/exposure/WB set/lock, exposure bracketing, and face detection. What really makes this app stand out from the crowd is the ability to choose which features you want to have and how you want to access them. Read More

Swipe Dungeon

| FREE | Yohei Sakakibara
Part of the maze Swipe Dungeon is an adorable game. The characters are drawn with a wide brush in much the same fashion as a budding middle school artist would. I think it’s great. I have an affinity for stick figures because of their simplicity, and Swipe Dungeon just adds to it. The monsters are even drawn as simple blobs with cute little eyes. It’s hard to beat them with my sword when they’re so sweet looking. The premise of the game is as simple as the characters. There are twenty floors to battle monsters through. The final boss is on the 20th floor, and each time you encounter a monster, your HP increases. Pretty nifty. There are fruits that increase your health. Each color of fruit restores a different number of HP. You can also store one fruit item to save for later. It’s like a midnight snack or something. That’s basically the entire game. A neat feature is the restriction on returning to the previous level. I am admittedly not the greatest navigator, and I would be three levels backward before I realized I was going in the wrong direction. There is also a map that you can check out if you get lost. The green spot is where you start, and the red spot is where you must go to complete the level. Read More

Naught

| FREE | Blue Shadow Games S.L.
This was the ceiling. This game is awesome. I just wanted to get that out of the way before I began my review. I know that I can leave some doubt in the beginning as to what side of the fence I’m sitting on, but I wanted to make sure that this review started out with no confusion. Naught is a game that is challenging with interesting graphics, intriguing gameplay and intense puzzles. It offers a mysterious backstory, and the black and white environment is artistic, rather than a copout. In Naught, gravity as you know it exists, and yet, it doesn’t. The game world exists in 360 degrees. You can run on the ceiling, run on the floor or fall through horizontal hallways. How you progress through each level is entirely up to you depending on what you deem to be the best route. Much like the Green Lantern, you are only limited by your own imagination. Once I had played the game long enough, I developed my favorite tactics for maneuvering through certain situations. Once you get the hang of the gravity, or antigravity, controls, the next phase is to collect the diamonds. These little nasties are hiding throughout each level. There wasn’t any indication that I could find before starting a level as to how many diamonds you’re supposed to find. The only thing is, you can’t progress to the next level without having found all of them. While I have it completely in my power to complain about this feature, I won’t. I think it adds dimension to the game. The developers came up with some rather creative ways to hide secret passageways for caverns and niches to stick the diamonds in. Rather than just cruise, float, fall or whatever you’re going to do through each level, you have Read More
