12/18/2010 iPhone App Review: Zombie Attack! Second Wave XL, by iPhone Download Blog

Zombie Attack! Second Wave XL was created by IUGO Mobile Entertainment. They developed some decent games such as a physics puzzler called Implode! XL and a simple little survival game called Cliffed XL. Their quality and know-how for games is not too shabby, so I expected the same from Zombie Attack! Bridge Defense XL. To save myself from agony of such a long name, I will now refer to it as simply, ZA. ZA is a free roaming Tower Defense game in which you must defend against hordes of Zombies. If anybody has ever played the Xbox360 game called Left 4 Dead (which I loved!), you could consider it as the Tower Defense iPhone Version of that game, and I say that loosely… The game provides 2 different modes, Survival and Challenge. Survival is where you try to stay alive the longest whereas Challenge mode presents you with some kind of handicap or achievement-type goals to acquire. Survival mode gives you wave after wave of slightly strong Zombies. However, the Challenge mode will introduce you to various cute and strange looking zombies which are harder to kill… one of them reminded me of the Zombie version of Jabba the Hut! Oh I had so much fun killing him. The concept of ZA is simple. You control a character and must kill Zombies via hand-to-hand combat or build turrets to stop the zombies from destroying your home. When you begin, you start with a measly knife, but as you kill more and more Zombies your weapon will automatically upgrade to more lethal weapons (no pun intended!) like a sword and shotgun. However, I strongly advise against going toe-to-toe with the Zombies because they will kick your ass every single time! So it’s best to wait until the Zombie’s health is 2/3 or 1/4 gone then go in for the kill! Unfortunately there will be times when you die at the hands of these bastards but don’t worry, you will be reborn in 10 seconds! Hallelujah! You have a choice between 3 upgradable turrets, a flamethrower, machine gun and cannon. The flamethrower is self explanatory, but the machine gun is interesting because 10% of the time it will shoot off a Zombie’s head making it roam around aimlessly. Also standing in the proximity of these turrets will give it an extra 25% damage boost, but in the later levels, you really don’t want Read More

08/18/2010 Favorite Four – Tower Defense Games, by 148 Apps

By Rob LeFebvre on August 18th, 2010 Helping you sort through the mountain of Tower Defense games with four of our favorites. Hello there! It’s time once again for our Favorite Four, handpicked from the iTunes App Store just for you. This week, we’re looking at Tower Defense games. The genre is well worn across all gaming consoles, but perhaps no where as much as on the iOS itself (two full icon pages of iPhone game apps alone – try a search on ‘tower defense’). The concept is simple, yet addictive: place towers across a fixed or grid-defined path to keep bad guys, or creeps, from getting to your base or tower. The upside of so many these kinds of games is that you can find the ones that most appeal to YOU. Here are four of the ones that work for me. Zombie Attack This is one of the original iPhone Tower Defense games, having been released way back in July of last year, from IUGO. I still think it’s one of the first TD games on the iPhone to innovate with a non-fixed path, and a thematic consistency that lends to a survival horror-type feel while playing. If you want to play the innovator, go here. $1.99 iPhone App - Designed for the iPhone, compatible with the iPad Released: 2008-11-09 :: Category: Games Sentinel 2: Earth Defense I truly think this iteration of Sentinel is one of the best tower defense games out there on a thematic level, as well as from a graphic and gameplay standpoint. Its pretty, has a variety of great maps to play through, and keeps the challenge at a high yet accessible level. Give this one a shot if you love science fiction as well as gaming. $0.99 Released: 2009-06-26 :: Category: Games Fieldrunners If you don’t already have this game, either on your iPhone or PSP, go out right now and get it. The folks over at Subatomic Studios hit the sweet spot in terms of balance and gameplay with this title. It continues to be my go to game of choice when I’m sitting in a waiting room or jury box, needing something that launches quickly, keeps me engaged, and doesn’t require twitch reflexes to keep going. Grab it, and grab it now. $2.99 Released: 2008-10-05 :: Category: Games Plants Vs. Zombies While this one sits on the expensive side of the Read More

05/08/2010 Daisy Mae’s Alien Buffet Is Available For Free For A Limited Time, by Apple iPhone Apps

If tending to virtual flower gardens really isn’t your thing, maybe you should try blasting aliens in a desert trailer park instead?  IUGO’s odd B-movie twist on the dual stick survival shooter, Daisy Mae’s Alien Buffet, is now available for free, but only for a limited time. In Daisy Mae’s Alien Buffet you control Daisy, an unlikely heroine who must protect her little desert trailer park from hordes of aliens by using all of the crazy weapons available to her.  Daisy is controlled via the usual on-screen dual joysticks, where the left controls her movement and the right controls the direction of fire.  Aliens that have been vanquished will sometimes drop new weapons and extra lives that you can simply walk over to pick up.  You can also unleash Daisy’s taunt, which kills every alien on the screen. The game features a variety of alien foes, powerful weapons, different costumes to unlock, and OpenFeint integration. Daisy Mae’s Alien Buffet is normally available for $1.99, but it is now available for free for an unspecified amount of time.  If you are a fan of dual stick shooters, give it a try.  It may be a bit limited on gameplay with only a single level, but its B-movie style helps keep things interesting. 04/15/2010 A.D.D. iPhone Video Review , by

MasterAbbott is back for another one of his video reviews.  This time we have A.D.D. from IUGO Mobile Entertainment. A.D.D is a iPhone game that’s fun, amusing and entertaining the doesn’t require too much thinking.  It’s perfect if you only have a few minutes to spare while your waiting for the eggs to boil or just waiting for bus   A.D.D. consists of multiple little mini games that take no longer than a few seconds to complete / pass.  There are some very weird / funny ones that will make you giggle.  The controls can be a little confusing at first on certain mini games, as they appear on the screen really quickly before mini game starts up, but once you play them a few times in the game and also in practice mode it all starts to make sense.  There is no object to A.D.D.  all you have to do is complete the mini games before the time runs out and then move to the next one.  There is a worldwide leaderboard that you can post your score after the game is over for bragging rights on who can complete the most amount of mini games which is very cool. Now enough reading .. more watching .. enjoy the video review Capsule Computers gives A.D.D  7 Capsule out of 10.  It’s a great little game that will keep you amused for that short period of time whilst you have time to kill.  It would also be perfect at parties as some of the mini games are really funny in a sick / twisted kind of way but keeping within its boundaries as not to insult anyone. Want A.D.D ?? Well click on the BUY NOW button below and grab it from the Apple iTunes Store. Let us know what you thought of the review and the game in the comments - Read More

04/14/2010 ESCAPE: Norm’s World XL Arrives: Easy Levels Are FREE To Play!, by The App Era

April 14th, 2010 James Isabel This game is definitely one of the surprises we saw from GDC 2010 and yesterday, it arrived for both the iPhone and the iPad with the latter getting some cooler features. IUGO’s puzzler launches for : This puzzle game should be a breathe of fresh air for IUGO fans. It’s a step out of their “comfort zone” by going for minimalist color and design instead of the eye popping colors. Don’t fret though because the game’s totally fun just like many of their iPhone games! Features: iPad Specific Features: If you missed it, here was our preview video for the game. I don’t know about you but I jumped on this game as soon as I first saw it appear on the store. I most definitely think you should too! You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.
